Re: Frequent line drop

I have the at&t dsl pro, but there is frequent line drop, particularly in evening and more computers are connected to the gateway. When all computers are not connected, the signal is fine and stable, is this the gateway problem or the line problem?

Easy way to diagnos is call ATT DSL support and ask them to run a line noise test. This will check the signal getting to the gateway. If everything tests fine there is usually an issue with the device.

Your router could be defective but also you could have a poor DSL connection at your location. Those of us stuck with old copper just learn to live with frequent service drops.

I have a second line for dial up and would like to switch over to dsl through my cable company to save some money can I drop my second line (dial up) and go to cable without any problems. I pay MSN direct...

DSL connection works on the same line provided by company who provides DSL. If dialup line is not provided by DSL company, you can drop dialup line and contact DSL company for DSL connection. If dialup line is provided by DSL company, migrate your internet plan from dialup to DSL by contacting DSL company.

Can you check if you have problems with your internet connection?
How about your browser? i recommend using mozilla firefox browser because i assure that it it the fastest browser.

If you have no problems with your internet connection probably you may want to check if your device are working properly.

Consider:
The type of Internet connection you use is the most important factor in determining your connection speed. The three most common ways to connect to the Internet from home are dial-up, DSL, and cable. If you have a choice, cable is usually the fastest, but both DSL and cable are faster than dial-up.

The health of your computer can affect your Internet connection.Spyware and viruses can definitely cause problems, but your Internet connection speed can also be affected by add-on programs, the amount of memory the computer has, hard disk space and condition, and the programs that are running.
Two of the most frequent causes of poor Internet performance are spyware and viruses. Spyware can slow your system by interfering with your browser and monopolizing your Internet connection. Spyware monitors your Internet use and keystrokes, which adds delays. The problem is compounded when there are multiple spyware programs running at the same time. If the problem is severe enough, you can lose connectivity altogether. To get your Internet performance back, you should regularly run an antispyware program to clean out any spyware infestation.

Computer viruses can also cause poor Internet performance. When a virus infects a computer, it installs computer code which will attempt to propagate itself, usually by sending copies of itself through e‑mail. Some viruses can multiply at the rate of hundreds of e‑mail messages per minute, which leaves little computing power and Internet connection bandwidth for anything else. Viruses often do not give any obvious indication that they are running, so it is best to run your antivirus software at all times.

Thank you : ) i hope my information works.
Please pm me if none of the options work. :)

DSL (2wire modem) and LAN conflict

You can actually try accessing the interface of your gateway and put it on DMZ mode. That way it will open the ports on your gateway to ensure passage of all data from your gateway to all your computers even when the dsl is on. But make sure tat you have security software installed on all your computer workstations bec. putting your 2WIRE gateway on DMZ mode will expose your connection.

FVS 318 Internet Problem

I have been using three FVS-318's over several years with Windows XP, Windows 2000 Clients and Servers. I experienced different problems with all three of them and some of the issues could be resolved by Netgear, others were not. One of the problems was during Terminal Server sessions, the connection would be dropped. From the inbound, everything seemed to be fine. From outbound, the router was simply not accessible. This sounds very much like your problem, only with different applications. Once I started buying total different routers, all my problems were solved. Please don't stick too long with the FVS-318, however the box looks great. Once my problems were solved, I kissed the 318 goodbye. I'm sorry my repsonse to your problem came so late. I recently discovered this website.

What a static ip is, is the ip address that the router automatically assigns to other equipment. (computers, xbox, ect.) Find D-links customer support line for help.
