I think I updated BIOS from Dell incorectly. Downloaded to "C" drive, replaced old BIOS with update. Resart. Blank screen, six beeps ( four then two), power light green, hard drive spins fast & blank...

Sounds like the BIOS upgrade didn't take. Those beep codes are audible indicators that the motherboard has failed POST (Power On Self Test).

Here's is a list of the codes for your specific BIOS/PC:

The system powers up, I get the dell screen, then the screen goes blank and a cursor remains in the top left of the screen. The light left of the power button is green but the is no light on the power...

Tap F8 several times to see if the system will start in safe mode. If it does the problem is a software problem. Then try reloading windows. If by tapping f8 several times when u see the dell screen doesn't start the computer, your problem is hardware. Possibly a hard drive.

If you were a little bit handy and had another computer you could plug in another hard drive and see it the computer starts

I have a gateway laptop model MA7and it wont start up.

It is not a hard drive issue. If hard drive is a problem system wont boot till motherboard processor. Try to reinstall your OS. It will fix your issue.

Packard bell imedia 3034

After reading a ton of posts you may be correct, your board is dying or is dead.
An easy way to get your data off your old Hd to your new Hd would be to connect it directly into the new PC internally.
Just like you would a new drive only you would set the old drive as a slave. Here is your 3034 link.
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?pn=P842025601&g=1400
The motherboard in this 3034 is Gigabyte, GA-8SIML-NF7, shown at this link: http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=spec_columbia5p&ppn=P842025601
There is almost no chance of you finding this board its just too old. There are boards at this link that will handel all of your imedia 3034 parts, motherboards.
