Question about Toshiba 57H82 57" Rear Projection Television

57H82 Menu does not display

Hey all,

First off, I love this website, you guys are typically great with questions! I have a Toshiba 57H82 projection TV that recently had convergence problems. I took it apart and soldered in new STK392 chips. Now the picture on the TV is great, but all the on-screen commands will not show up. For example, I can change volume and channel, but I do not see the indicator on the screen for either (the tv menu is the same way, you can press the button on the TV and then play with the remote and stuff will change, but i can't see what i'm changing). Any ideas? I took it back apart and did a quick scan, to the best of my knowledge everything is plugged back in...

My best guess is you missed a connection on the mico IC cotrolling the OSD (On screebn display)... Scour the inside, I mean pack a luch and literally look it over real good... If you find nothing take a break and start again... My money would be on that!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

The colors are not matching up it will not allow auto focus or manual, the red line is not straight? Toshiba 57H82 rear projection t.v.

The convergence circuit has failed in the tv. These are the big STK chips on the circuit board. It typically costs $300 to fix at a TV service center. Requires replacement of two STK chips, some resistors, some fuses and then re-alignment of the CRTs within the service menu.

If you have proper soldering tools and can download the service manual, it is possible to do the repair yourself.

If you do not have any electronic background whatsoever, I do not recommend a person to attempt it.

The picture on my Toshiba 57H82 model went out. What Type of bulb do I buy and how do I change it?

if you type in "toshiba 57h82" in a google search, the page should show you a list of lamps of veriuos stores with variuos prices. Now to change it, www.youtube.com can have a great resource of information about how to change the lamps. In youtube, just type in DLP lamp replacement. You may not find one on your set, but after whatching a few of the videos, you should have a working knowledge how to change it yourself. Just remember not to touch the front part of the lamp with bare hands. the oils in your body can cause premature damage to the lamp. Use rubber gloves. Cheap ones for a dolor store will work fine.

Power light comes on but no picture at all...

There are several more fuses in the TV, but they are not like the main power fuse. Most of of the time there black with and lead coming out of each end about the size of a resistor. I think there are 9 of them, you will need an ohm meter to check them and a soldering iron to replace them. Good luck Eric.
