Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5100 All-In-One Printer

2 Answers

My kodak easyshare 5100 is a piece of junk, THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS.

As many of you I also have the same problem. The Kodak Easyshare 5100 isn't what I expected. IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK. I have asked support many times for help.

Support did send me a new inkhead for my printer and I did install it.
I have been able to use my color ink, but nothing with the black.
I have tried three brand new black cartridges and still nothing.

I have not been happy. I WANT MY MONEY BACK AND ALL THE TIME

I totally agree. Right out of the box I had problems just getting it installed which required hours on the phone with support. Now, what was installed, won't open. When I print pics, the ink is pooled on the photo paper, never dries, is all blotchy. I probably have not printed more than 20 pics on this thing. I rehooked my trusty ole hp back up. I also bought the top-of-the-line Z812 IS camera to replace a Z740 that was stolen. I don't like it as well as the old one. What is Kodak doing??!!

My 5100 is also a piece of junk. It keeps giving me not proper paper error when the paper is correct. Takes me forever to get it to print. It will finally take the paper and its the same paper that was there. Same problem with photo 4x6. Correct paper but printer says its not. This printer is noisy and very slowwww compared to my HP. Software has problems. Update screws up my printer and I have to uninstall it. Printer wouldn't work connected directly to usb. Kept corrupting my wireless. On phone with support 45 minutes with no solution. I finally tried connecting to a USB extension and then it worked. Kodak needs to stick to what they know best. Photos and leave printers to the ones that know how.

I agree that the Kodak Easyshare 5100 is a pile of JUNK.

My Kodak easyshare 5100 has printed only a couple dozen photos and paper prints (I use a laser for serious printing) and then wouldn't print black. I installed the latest firmware (as Kodak requested) - still no good so they sent me a new printhead an a pair of cartridges.

By the way, the only visible difference between the old and new printhead is that the steel bar (2.5" x 0.3" x 0.1" approx) fitted beneath the old cartridge is not fitted to the new one). But still no good.

In addition, my Kodak 5100 thinks it's a CAMERA. Whenever I turn it ON, I get an "EasyShare AiO" window stating "Camera Connected" and asking me to selecta program to open. WHAT IS GOING ON?

This sounds like a driver problem or something corrupted in the Regsitry. no wonder the damned thing won't print. Kodak have no answer for this and have said they will send me a new printer. (But that's not going to fix the camera problem is it boys?).

Like I said, the printer is JUNK and the service boys haven't a clue how to fix it either.

I too thought it was junk, until I learned to use it correctly. I was not using the program right. I have since printed about 800 photos and another 1000 or so pages of text, without a problem. Keep paper in BOTH storage areas, don't refill the ink cartridges. They use PIGMENT based ink. Other inkjet printers use DYE based ink. Make sure the printer defaults are set to what you need. If you're going to print something other than default, after you hit print, pick the proper setting for what you want from the first window that pops up. I've had about 15 printers over the years and the 5100 AIO is by far the best printer I've ever had.

Call Kodak, there is a problem with print heads going bad on these printers. I have replaced mine twice now. They will put you through some tests on your printer, then will send you a new one for free if that's what they think the problem is.

Yes it will work. However, the quality of the print will go down. I have used recycled cartridges in the past and the print can smear - But it is a solution to your problem.

Printer not printing black ink

Contact Kodak with your problem. The problem is in the print head. Kodak will send you a new print head free, then follow the instructions that are inclosed to change the print head. DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE IT WITHOUT READING THE INSTRUCTIONS. You may damage the new head and they will not replace it a second time for free.

Kodak 5100 EasyShare All in One

Hi Miss Patti,

Regarding your issue, you shouldn't clean the printhead manually because it might damage the printhead with it. You need to clean the printhead with the printer first. Open your Home Center Software first on your computer and then click on the "?" mark icon on the top right corner of the window and then under General Links tab click on Maintenance and then choose Clean Printhead. Clean the printhead twice and then try to make some prints. If it still doesn't work, call kodak technical support so that they could replace your printhead because it might be already damage due to the manual cleaning of it. I know it will work...
Kodak technical support: 1-800-421-6699

I hope I helped out... Take care!
