Delonghi dehumidifer This unit has started to ice up. Is it time to replace it or can it be fixed?

Had the same issue, but cleaning has not helped. The filter was clean, I vacuumed the fins/coils; however, I did notice rust and rust pieces in the collecting tray. One side of the fins was slightly rusted. The unit still frost ups when the condenser comes on, but it melts if I turn off then on again as the fan starts first. There is a low temp device but it may not be working properly?

Hi,

Might it be that the unit simply needs a full thorough cleaning including the tiny spaces between fins? Dust can gather and block air passage on many of the components of a dehumidifier not only on the filter. in some extreme cases, the unit could be undercharged (insufficient) coolant. A service shop engaged in the business of cleaning and repairing air conditioners should also be able to work on your unit.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a DDE50E delonghi dehumidifer. I am using it to dry out my car interior after the sunroof was left open in a storm. The unit works and collects water but shuts off frequently. What settings should I...

The absolute lowest setting possible. Usually 35%. Also there must be at least a minimum of 12" clear air space around the entire unit for it to function properly.

I hope this helped you, Terri. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I was just given a DD50PC as a gift from a friend who did not have the accompanying instruction booklet. He told me to turn the unit on and let it work. I do not know what temp to set it at. It has to...

On a dehumidifer, you set the relative humidity, not temperature. Normally the humidity should be set within 40 to 60 percent humidity.

Dehumidifer "froze" Turned unit off removed ice and left for a couple of months. Turned unit on motor works but does not remove moisture.

timer is not working, or thermocouple is defective.
unit must cycle forward-reverse to remove ice, thisis how it works, by melting the ice that forms.

The fan runs but it does not dehumidify. What could it be?

If the room tempature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifers work below a room temo of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensot from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.
