How do I change the video from Analog to Digital; there doesn't seem to be any "properties" in the Device Manager relating to the Monitor?

My monitor will not allow the 1680x1050 setting either. The monitor settings changed when I plugged in my camcorder through a firewire connection, and I can't recover the previous settings. Everything was fine before.

I too have the same problem, the Viewsonic VX 2235WM monitor was working fine, then overnight- no longer able to access a resolution higher than 1024x768!

I remember having this problem originally when I purchased the monitor and I remember someone telling me of a quick fix (which worked) unfortunatly I don't remember what it was!

If anyone has any ideas please let me know! I think I have been on every forum relating to this with no luck!

1. It could be limitation of your video card. Older cards would not support high resolution for LCD monitors.
2. Be sure to use DVI(digital) output from your video card. You will not get a good resolution with VGA(analog)
3. When installing driver for a monitor sometimes you will get a chose to install analog(VGA) or digital(DVI) driver. Choose the correct driver.

Good luck!

I have installed viewsonic va1716w monitor using windows xp. I am unable to set its resolution to 1440X900. from display properties it going from 1024X768 to 1280X1024

It is possible that the video driver cannot support 1440X900 resolution.
Try installing the latest video driver and then try the higher screen resolution.

I cannot install the driver for Viewsonic VX2235wm (XP pro) Cannot select 1680x1050 res for this monitor

Well your LCD supports 1680x1050 resolution.
You have to check the video/ graphics card of your PC, if it supports the same resolution or not. Let me know the model no. and your motherboard details for a better assistance.

Looking forward for your response

Out of range

Your windows video settings are for a monitor that has more capability (eg more pixels/finer resolution, higher refresh rate, more colour bits than the current screen can handle so it's spit the dummy.

Run your computer in safe mode (I believe that uses basic video driver) and set the video display options to a very low level, then re-start your computer again in normal mode, and set the options to the native resolution, refresh rate etc of the monitor. These should be listed in the specs that would come in the box with it (may be resolution: 1,680x1,050)

Can't set 1680x1050 resolution on viewsonic monitor

I found the solution for my problem.
Initially I thought it's a monitor problem and was trying to find the drivers for it.
The problems is not with my monitor but with the video adapter I use.

My video adapter has a intel chipset (Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family). Apparently the driver that I was using was quite old.

The only thing I had to do is:
1. Download the latest video adapter driver
2. Uninstall the current video adapter driver
3. Restart the system (Windows XP)
4. Install the new driver.
5. Restart the system.

I just bought a viewsonic vx2240w. When I change the resolution to 1680x1050 the page becomes too wide for the screen. I have to scroll left and write just to see it.

This sounds like an issue with the windows driver for your video card. I have to load the viewsonic driver for my monitor first and make sure the device monitor is showing the vx2235 and not default monitor. Then make sure your video board will support the 10 x 16 format and check for any settings about horizontal scrolling. If you are running an ATI card, get the latest version of the Catalyst drivers from their web site. Hope this helps.
