Unfortunately Kingston does not offer Windows 98SE drivers for this drive. However, some end users have reported successful installation with a generic Windows 98SE - USB Mass Storage device driver. This driver can be downloaded free of charge from a third party vendor at, http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php.

Hello,
Download the driver and install it.

Installing the drivers system98.gif Before installing the drivers, it is important to know that there are 2 main versions of Windows 98, and they both handle USB differently. You must install the appropriate version of the drivers dependent upon your version of Windows 98. In order to determine your Windows version, please do the following:
  • Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  • On the System Properties page that opens up click on the General tab, if it is not already on that page.
  • Under the System heading, look for the version number (see right)
    • Version 4.10.1998 is the original version of Windows 98 (98FE)
    • Version 4.10.2222 is Windows 98 Second Edition (98SE)

I AM NOT ABLE TO CONNECT IT WINDOWS 98. I THINK DRIVER REQUIRED

Yes you are right. To connect any thing to the USB required the driver because Win98 don't have the driver to detect automatically as in WinXP etc. Download the driver install and then connect the device to the USB.

To use moserbare 1gb pen drive

sarwesh,
to use USB mass storage in Windows 98 you need to install drivers for your mass device. So,
  1. Findout if any CD/DVD shipped with your pendrive. Install driver from that to your Windows 98 PC, then you can use it.
  2. If you don't have any setup disk from manufacturer, there might be drivers and software prestored in your pen drive. Use this pendrive to any other PC with XP/Vista. Burn these files to any CD/DVD and then make install these drivers to your Windows 98 PC, after that you can use your pen drive on your Windows 98 PC.
  3. If you are not able to do step 2, then goto manufacturer's site select your model no. and download driver and install.

If still you didn't found. Tell me your pendrive manufacturer and model no. I will try to give you link.

Thanks
Iqbal

SanDisk Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drive won't work with Win 98

Hi,

You need to download the Sansa Win98 drivers here. This is of course assuming that your Windows98 recognizes the on board USB ports of your motherboard which can be verified in the Device Manager. The Universal Serial Bus Controllers should show at the very bottom of the list of installed devices.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Found usb device message

There are drivers available for your book on the WD website...They are meant to be used with win98...If you're using XP the drivers it's asking for isn't for the book but probably the USB hub...

Things you could do by order of priority:

1) Re-install the driver for USB hub
2) Install those 98 drivers (won't do any harm)
2) Repair Win XP
3) Re- format your PC (I know it's extreme...but as a last resort you may want to consider it)

Good luck !
