You must select text document in scan panel, instead of color picture. The document will be automatically redirected to ocr.

Here is a way to scan on ocr from Microsoft Word for example:
    "
    Acquire Text

    The following instructions will give
you the basic instructions to acquire text from a scanned document in
Office Word 2007 using OmniPage SE.

    1. Ensure the Canon scanner driver and OmniPage SE are installed and that your scanner has been setup.

Note: If OmniPage SE is not installed, the required Add-in for Office Word 2007 will not be installed

    2. Place the document(s) to scan on the platen or on the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) (if applicable).

    3. Open Office Word 2007.

    4. From the ribbon menu, select the 'Add-Ins' tab.

    5. In the Add-Ins tab, click 'OmniPage' and then select 'Acquire Text Settings (OmniPage SE)'.
      The Options window will open.

    6. On the Direct OCR tab, click the 'Image Source' drop-down to select 'Scan'.

    7. Confirm 'Scan' is shown in Image Source section and then click 'OK'.
The Options window will close and you'll return to Office Word 2007.

    8. Click 'OmniPage' and select 'Acquire Text (OmniPage SE)' to scan your document.

    9. After the document(s) is scanned, make corrections to the text items as appropriate.

You need OCR software installed in your PC

go to www.hp.com then type OCR application then download it in your pc

OCR Application File name: s.gif 23902_hpcom_OCR_120_003.exe [1/1, 54.84M]

Text Cannot Be Edited After It Is Scanned to a Word Processing Program
Issue After scanning into a word-processing program, the text in the original is not editable. Workaround The process of changing text from an image to editable text is called optical character recognition (OCR). Text should automatically be converted in the OCR process when the Send To destination is a word-processing program. If it does not, check the items in the following list:
  • Select Editable Text as the image type in Scan Settings . In Windows XP, this setting is automatically selected if Scan Document is selected in the Director program.
  • Scan at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) for correct OCR conversion. Check the default resolutions in the Scan Settings on the Resolution tab.
  • If portions of the scan are cut off, turn off the Auto Crop feature in the Scan Settings on the Scanning tab by clicking to clear the check mark.
  • Tables, text boxes, and spreadsheets might not be editable. The border around them makes the OCR program read them as images. Readiris OCR, which is included with the HP Officejet G and K series, can recognize these images. Instead of selecting the word-processing program in the Send To list, send the scan to Readiris. Use the Table Drawing tool on the right side of the window to change the type of image to a table, and then use the OCR. The text inside of the box should now be editable.
NOTE: Handwritten messages might not be captured by the OCR process.

Christian from HP

How can i scan a document on my mp240

download this free OCR program, install it and when you open your scanned image, just click on the OCR button and the scan will be converted to editable text.

Or just click on the MS Word button on the interface, and it will open it in Microsoft Word. In either case, you can re-work the document and re-save it or print it.

I have a hp 1310 AIO Printer how do you scan documents to computer using such programmes as ms word

MS Word cannot open scanned documents to edit. You need to run a scanned document through an OCR program (optical character recognition program) which converts the scanned document into a text document. Then you open Ms Word and import or open this text document to edit or change the text.

What are the functions of ocr

An OCR program (optical character recognition program) converts scanned text documents into a text file which you can then open with a word processor to edit and or add addition text to this document.

CAN'T SCAN TEXT

If you scan the document, make sure it is saved in JPEG format. What you do afterwards is to download FreeOCR. This program is free and works better than most of the ones you purchase.

Just install it in 5 minutes, open your scanned jpeg image and click on OCR button and in seconds, the program will bring it up in editable format for you to change, correct or whatever. Or just click on the OCR MS Word button, and it will open it up in Microsoft Word. Here is the link..

How to scan and edit text document

You must use an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program

Run the "ScanSoft OmniPage" software that came with your printer.
Load the document into the scanner and "acquire" the document through OmniPage.
The pictures will not show up and the text may not be 100% accurate.
Run the resulting document into your wordprocessor (MS Word? or Works?), and run spellcheck.

Problem using OCR with Canon MP610 all-in-one

I got this message too, before I installed an OCR program. It may be that you need to install one (or specify it, if you have one already). With my MP610, an installation disk was included that contained the OmniPage SE program for OCR. When I installed that on my computer, and told MP Navigator (another Canon-supplied program, that controls scanning) to use it as the "Open With" program for OCR, it worked.
