I had the same problem before and was able to track it down to the rubber coated wheel used to pull out paper sheets from the tray. Over time it gets covered with fine dust from the paper so much, it does not provide enough friction to pull out one sheet properly on the first turn. When it continues to the second revolution, it takes two sheets out of the tray.
My works-got-me fix for this problem was to clean the wheel properly with a slightly damp (not soaking wet!) cloth. Best results come from gently wiping left to right, not in direction of the wheel's rotation. You will need to rinse the cloth a few times and repeat, the paper dust has a tendency to convert to a smeary goo if it gets wet, but will come off eventually.
When the rubber wheel is clean, give it time to dry properly before use of the printer again. Try to use higher quality paper, with cheap paper the problem occurs more frequently.

Printer says paper jam, But there is no paper jam.

I will ask where does the sheet of paper lie inside the printer when it jams or is there no sheet of paper to be seen. Next question does the printer actualy pick up a sheet of paper. if not may be worn\ missing grey rollers, which can be seen by removing paper tray and looking in and up. There are 3 main sensors usually one at the paper pickup from tray, next one half way through( under a plate which is under the toner cartridge) and the last one is on the fuser at the rear, although the last one normally gives the alarm message " jam in fuser area" check these sensors out for sticking or not free.

It is sying i have a paper jam but there is no paper in it

There are two types of paper jams:

1) A jammed piece of paper at or near a sensor. Or a shred of paper is stuck under a sensor.
2) A paper feed operation that does not send paper into the printer will get reported as a jam it the paper does not reach a sensor in the time that is allotted to reach the sensor. The printer knows that the page is late and suspects a jam occurred prior to the sensor.
To determine if there is a “Pick” problem in the tray, place a mark (line or scribble) on the top sheet in the paper tray. Send a print operation to the printer. If a jam is reported, check the tray. If the marked page is still in the tray then you know the paper pick failed.
There are dozens of reasons for paper to fail to pick. The simplest fix to try is to remove the paper and fan it to remove any possible static charge causing the paper to stick together.

Error message keeps appearing "paper jam in tray 2" although there is definitely no paper jam.

If you did not get ALL the jammed sheet out, there is still a small piece of paper in there somewhere, probably covering a sensor or micro switch. Get a torch and look carefully. If you don't find anything you may need to disassemble the printer to find it.

Explanation of the paper jam message

A 241.09 Paper Jam message indicates that the printer thinks a sheet of paper has jammed at the front of the printer. The jammed sheet of paper is most likely to be found in one of the paper trays or under the toner cartridge.
NOTE: If you select Show areas on the operator panel, you can view one or more images to help you locate and clear the jam.

Clearing the jam
To resolve the paper jam message, you must first clear the entire paper path. To access the jam area, you will need to open one or more of the paper trays. Follow the steps in the table below to help you locate and clear the jam.
Step Action Image 1 Open the printer paper tray (tray 1), and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10222007_1922-enus28872_24109paperjam1_t64x_en_us.gif 2 Open the front cover and remove the toner cartridge. Examine the area inside the printer and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10242007_159-enus28872_24109paperjam5_t64x_en_us.gif 3 If you have a duplex option installed, also remove the duplex access tray and remove any jammed media you find there. pattlnk_10302007_1559-enus28860_24x17paperjamduplex_t64x_en_us.gif 4 If you were printing from an optional paper tray, such as tray 2 or tray 3, open any optional trays, starting at the top, and remove any jammed media. Pull the print media either up or down. If it does not pull easily one way, try the other way pattlnk_10222007_1957-enus28872_24109paperjam3_t64x_en_us.gif 5 If you are printing from an optional 2000-sheet feeder, open the front door. Press the elevator button (A) to lower the tray. Remove any partially fed media from the feeder.
NOTE: Make sure the stack of print media is straight and pushed all of the way into the feeder. Incorrectly loaded paper is the most common cause of paper jams from a 2000-sheet feeder option.

For a larger image, click here. 6 Finally, reinstall all of the paper trays and press the pattlnk_10222007_2117-select_button.jpg button to try printing again.
NOTE: You may receive a different paper jam message informing you that another sheet of paper is jammed elsewhere in the printer. If this occurs, the error code will indicate the location. Click here for a diagram showing the error code locations. The paper path will vary, depending on the paper source and number of paper feed options installed.
Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find and try printing again.

Paper Jam Error Message

I would try to clean the tires with alcohol, it's probably trying to pick up the other sheet but is slipping.

take out the tray and look inside for the pick-up and seperation tires.
