How to hook up a denon avr -1706 receiver to a lg smart tv

When connecting your AVR-1706 to your LG TV, you will most likely be limited by the connections on your AVR-1706 as it does not have any HDMI capability.

In this case, depending on your LG TV, you would get the best video performance by using the component video connections from your TV to the Receiver. These are the one labeled Y, Pb, and Pr. These are special cables and you will need 2 sets if you want to run video out of your TV (perhaps you are using the internal tuner). Refer to page 6 of your AVR manual for the TV video inputs. Please note you will only use one type of input such as Component, S Video or Composite (descending order of performance). You must connect the Video Out from your AVR to the back of the TV's Video In as shown on page 6 as a minimum to get signals from devices other than the TV.

On page 12 of your AVR manual you can see the connections for TV outputs including the audio connections to the AVR. In the case of audio, you can either use Optical Digital (Toslink) out from the TV or coaxial (RCA) cables: Again in descending order of performance.

If you don't have the AVR-1706 manual handy, you can see it at the following link: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/033/033AV1706B.PDF

Connecting

did you check this out yet? (from the owners manual)

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the AVR's video output resolution

is set higher than the capabilities of the actual connection,

you will not see a picture. If the best available video connection

from the AVR to the TV is composite video, press this button
and change the resolution to 480i.

I have a Denon AVR 888, I want to use the reciever for my audio coming from my TV, I have plugged in a HDMI into the in port and connected it to my TV, I do not get any audio from the reciever

HI,
If you want to get the audio of tv program through the AVR then your tv should have a HDMI out port. Because you have connected the cable directly to tv. You didnt mentioned anything about your tv (make and model number). So its not possible to give you a final answer.

Check on thing isthere ia nsy RCA audio output in your tv. All tvs will have RCA audio out put. Wich you can connct to the TV /CBL in put of your AVR using a RCA cable. Then select the TV/CBL Using the SOURCE SELECTOR on the frond of the AVR.

Another Way is if there is optical out put on your tv then you can connect the optical out to the AVR's OPTICAL IN 1 or 2 Using an optical cable. Then you have to got to the input assignment menu of
the AVR and then you have to assign the optical 1 or optical 2 to wich you have made the connection. Here i have added the link to the user manual of the AVR. Check the page number 22. Which shows the menu tree. To assign the optical input for TV/CBL you have to go to the Input set-up there you will find the ASSIGN on the under CD,AUX etc menu.
This setup required if you use OPTICAL input of the AVR. Check the page number 14 for the connection diagram.

IF you are going to use RCA cable the simply connect one end of the rca to TV's AUDIO OUT and other end to the TV/CBL input of the AVR. And then select TV/CBL.

Here i have added the picture of RCA cable that you nee for making such connection between TV and AVR.

I am having trouble hooking up my xbox through my denon avr 688. I can get audio but no video. Help me, please.

Are you using an hdmi or a component vid from the xbox to the avr? and a hdmi from the avr to the tv? Some receivers only pass through not upscale the video. My xbox uses the component vid out to my avr so I have to also use component to my tv from my avr.

No video on Denon avr 688

After days of frustration the real problem was with the cable box. It needed a firmware update. Following forum advice I disconnected the cable box power cord for a few minutes, reconnected it, allowed the cable box to reinitialize. Turned off receiver and TV. Turned TV back on and set it to HDMI connection, turned on receiver and all worked fine. Great picture and sound.( Needed to buy an optical cable to go from the cable box to the receiver to get sound from the speaker system. )--the dirtybird

Denon AVR-688 Dolby Digital issues

IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO CONNECT ANALOG AUDIO IN ADDITION TO THE OPTICAL, COAXIAL OR HDMI AUDIO CONNECTION. IF USING OPTICAL OR COAXIAL CONNECTIONS BE SURE TO CONFIGURE IT IN THE RECEIVERS DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT AREA IN SETUP.
ALSO, ON THE FRONT OF THE RECEIVER IS AN INPUT MODE BUTTON, PRESS THIS BUTTON UNTIL AUTO IS DISPLAYED

I have the denon avr-688 - when i use the mic to auto setup, i have sound from each of my speakers, but when trying to watch tv or a blu ray movie there's no sound at all

Check your blu-ray connection. Is the HDMI cable going from the player to the receiver, then another HDMI cable going from the receiver to the television? What about your TV input? Is there a cable going from the cable converter box to the receiver's input?

No sound output

Sounds like you sorta know what your doing but the most obvious answer is the source and output (selection) dont match. Double check your mute button and all the obvious things first, make sure your connections are to Zone1 inputs as well. None of those are it? Do you get sound from the Radio? Try unhooking all inputs (video also) and hooking up just one at a time till you get it right.
