Are you speaking about the password of the router or the password of the wireless network ?
If you don't know the password of the router , then you will need to reset the router and use the default password of the router.
Once you reset the router, you will need to reconfigure it.
If you are looking for the wireless password, you can find it on the set up page of the router.
You will need to open the set up page of the router.

Lost username

To RESET the Netgear, power up the Netgear then press and hold the RESET button at the back of the router until all the LEDs flash.
Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
You can now change the default admin password and configure the wireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Need a securty code

Regarding your concern, please note that in order to get the network key/password on the NETGEAR router (MODEL_NUMBER), we need to login to the router's web interface using any computer which is physically connected to the router.

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router using an Ethernet cable in order to find the network/security key:

1. Open the browser (like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.1.1', 'http://www.routerlogin.net' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
3. When prompted for Username and Password please enter Username as 'admin' and Password as 'password' (please note that both Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on Wireless Settings' under Setup from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the pass phrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.

This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the NETGEAR router's wireless network.

In some cases, for security reasons the pass phrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.

Wireless connection

You need to access the routers configureation page. You can do this by opening your web browser and typing the default gateway into your address bar. For netgear this is normally 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. To check this you can launch the command prompt and type "ipconfig/all" this will bring up a lot of information including the default gateway. Upon entering this address into your browser you will be prompted for a username & password. The username is "admin" The password will be either "admin" or "password". Once you in just click the "wireless settings" tab on the left of the screen where your wireless key will be revealed to you. Don't forget to rate me,

I can't remember by netgear wp824 password - or WEP key - would it be a number?

You can find the wireless security password by accessing the router's admin page http://192.168.1.1 (username is admin and password is password) then go to the wireless security tab. There you can find the password or WEP key (10-digit code). If you can't login to the router's admin page, you can reset the router by pressing the reset button at the back of it for 20 seconds then power cycle the router by turning it off for 10 seconds.
