I want to delete everything from my laptop as though I am just beginning and I don't know what keys to press. I know when I had a Dell Computer I would hold down the control key while tapping F10 repeatedly until it got went to the screen that told me I was going to lose all my data. I really need to do this because it is the only way I can get rid of the virus that has been on my computer for a while now.

Most notebooks have a separate partition on the hard drive that holds the recovery media needed to restore the unit.
You can usually run this by pressing F10 during the boot up process. You may need to press it several times in order to get it work.
If that doesn't work, then you will need to contact Compaq in order to order the recovery media kit.
There is a site that will give instruction on how to repair this but it you will need soldering skills and delicate handling to do so. try this site see if it helps. http://laptopsplanet.com/compaq-presario-dc-power-jack-repair/
It is a combination of key known as "Function" (Fn, for short). You have to press it and hold while pressing other keys showing the blue letters on it. The most common use is to make a virtual Numerical Keypad on laptops, so you can perform calculations. To be back to normal mode, you need to press FN+F8 (or the key with the Calculator icon).
Make sure to hold down the power button for 6 to 10 secs.
That should force the laptop to shutdown completely and then should be able to boot back up by pressing the power button like normal. You may get a choice about deleting hibernation info, do that and you should be back up and running. If not, press F8 while booting (before you see the XP logo) and choose safe mode, if you can get into safe mode, good, just reboot and it should go back into normal mode. There maybe more to it, please let me know.
If you want to complete erase the hard drive and start fresh you will need an operating system disc, there no other way, other than going through and manually deleting every file and program that you don't want. Doing a system restore back to the earliest point, will still leave any installed files and programs intact.
