Question about Tascam 2488 Portastudio Multitrack Recorder System

1 Answer

2488 upgrade 1.01 to 1.02(most current version)

Does anyone know the advantage of upgrading from 1.01 to 1.02. My operating system seems to be stable, but am I missing any upgrades to FX, operations, etc......? Where can I get the factory demo song for messing around. Is it in the upgrade?

Hi,

The firmware upgrade does not contain the demo song.

Although Tascam has never released any official information that I'm aware of on what is fixed in the 1.01 and 1.02 upgrades, the general knowledge on that is as follows:

1.01 fixed a problem with exporting previously edited tracks to wav files in which there would be gaps in the tracks where edits had been done. There was a work around for this which involved first bouncing the edited track and then exporting the bounced track instead of the one had the first generation edits.

1.02 is said to have addressed some issues with fader dropout (faders would jump around at the bottom of their range rather than operate smoothly). Also a problem with the midi clock which caused some issues when trying to do a midi sync or to slave a device have been reported. I've also heard that some users contend that copying songs is faster with 1.02 than it was using 1.01.

I'm not aware of any other fixes or ehnacements. The 1.01 fixes were documented and were supposed to affect all units.

I've have heard that the fader problems fixed by version 1.02 were 'real' and one would notice the difference after upgrading. I've never used any firmware other than 1.02 with mine so I have not encountered these reported problems first hand.

Cheers,

bd

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

What is the main benefit for upgrading?

with operating systems , it is only necessary to upgrade if you receive a notice that the current os( operating system) is no longer being supported ( no upgrades to eliminate problems )
an example here is the win 10 upgrade from a previous win 7 , vista etc
this up grade has conflicts with the installed os so it is better to get the win 10 program and install it in full rather than upgrade to win 10
Using mac os and you are happy and confident in the use of that version and there is no notice that that version will no longer be supported, then stay with what you know and is trouble free
however if you want more from the mac os consider buying the program and installing it complete rather than an up grade on the current base os
for advice on this sort of problem , go google and find forums on the subject and then make your decision or talk with a computer repair guy to get good information

How do I switch/upgrade my motherboard from a 32bit to a 64bit please

Having a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system mainly depends upon the operating system that is loaded on your primary hard drive (generally drive C:). However, your motherboard's components, i.e., processor and amount of system RAM, will be a major factor in determining whether you can only run a 32-bit operating system, or upgrade to a 64-bit system.

How can I remap memory in bios to take advantage of full 4Go RAM ?

Use of memory is determined by your operating system 32bit operating systems XP, Vista 32, Win7 32 have a max of 3.5GB
to use more memory you need to upgrade operating system. If it works OK now I don't recommend upgrading. Driver incompatibility is a big issue

Hi there, I have just installed 7.10 and I would like to upgrade to the Ubuntu latest version... How can I do that? Can I dowload it or should I order the install CD? Many thanx,*

11.04 is the most stable and current version. You can upgrade from 7 to it with a thumb drive, and an installed program.

Go to the Ubuntu Website and download 11.04 iso.

Download and install UNetBootin.
Insert your thumbdrive, format it.
Open UNetBootin.
Select "Disk Image" then locate the location of the 11.04 iso you downloaded.
Then at the bottom, select your thumbdrive, and click OK

This will then get your thumbdrive bootable, and install 11.04 too it.

Once that's done. Shut down your computer, boot from the thumbdrive, and follow the upgrade instructions.

Best part, about "Upgrade". It'll 99% of the time keep your documents intact and just update the software.

Ppt files can not downloaded, PDF seems to try opening the doc. and atlast said not possible to open this doc

I don't know what system you have or current software installed however, if you have something like Java and Adobe Reader you may have to make sure you have the latest versions. You can try searching for upgrades/updates.

Will I lose the pictures already stored in my current version if I upgrade to a newer version?

HI Dear User, You will loose the content stored on your C: Drive. If u install a new version. You can always back up your content to an alternate drive and upgrade or reinstall your operating system. Also please do be careful to leave the other drives untouched when u reach the formatting and drive partitioning window.

Is there a way to upgrade the tone generator sounds drums, synths, etc?

No. Unfortunately you are stuck with the drum kits and standard midi that come with the 2488. I find the tone generator sounds to be pretty good on the 2488 quality-wise at least. Of course having the versatility of swapping in other kits and tones/samples would be nice. I believe Tascam discontinued the tone generator/drum machine on subsequent models of 2488 because it seems that the demand wasn't there.

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....
