My oven pilot won't stay on. We can't find the model # and we think it is about 30 yr old. It works really great except for that. Hope you are able to help as it is hard to do any baking.

Gas Hot Water Tank Not Producing Hot Water

Pilot will not stay lit

Trying to light your pilot light and it keeps going out when you turn on you gas valve. This is a common problem when your thermo-couple goes out. The thermo-couple sends a small electrical charge to the gas valve to keep its self lit. When the unit calls for heat the pilot flame gets bigger producing more electric and tells the gas valve to open the main gas valve to the burner tubes. The thermo-couple is an easy item to change most of the time. You will need to follow these steps to change out your thermo-couple:

1. Turn off the gas (there is an inline shut off on the supply line before it reaches the gas valve, you need to turn this crossways to the pipe)

2. Locate the thermo-couple it will look like this and be attached to the gas valve

3. Unscrew the thermo-couple from the gas valve

4. Remove the other end of the thermo-couple from the pilot holder

5. Measure or take the old thermo-couple to the hardware or appliance store with you to get the proper length (there are many different lengths of thermo-couples)

6. Reinstall the bulb end at the pilot

7. Reinstall the threaded end on the Gas Valve (make sure not to cross thread the thermo-couple it should start by hand)

8. Turn the gas valve to the pilot position and hold down the red button wait a few seconds then turn off and do again (you will need to do this around 5 times in order to get the gas back up to the pilot light then try and light the pilot)

9. Try to ignite the pilot light.

10. Once you get the pilot light lit you will want to hold down the button for 60 seconds then turn the gas valve to the on position.

Here is an image of a thermo-couple (they will all look similar to this):

I have a Garland Sunfire 36 inch gas Range. oven does not come on again after reaching temp.

You probably have a bad thermocouple. Try cleaning it off with sand paper. It's the part that the pilot light is igniting.

What makes the flame and pilot goes out about five minutes

wind, if there is any wind getting in your flu it will blow out your pilot light
which heats the thermo coupling and keeps your gas valve open its a safety device so if pilot blows out gas valve shuts down so as not to leak gas hopes this helps

My water heater (model # PTG-74PVP-2) keeps shutting off and flashing C7 76. If I turn it off and back on it will stay on for a little while and then shuts its self back off.

Does your Water Heater have a pilot to light the main flame?
Here is what I usually send to those with Pilot lights, and Thermo Couple problems:

One possibility is that the Thermo Couple is beginning to fail'
What is a Thermo Couple? (TC)
The Thermo Couple (TC) is a small Rod-shaped device with a couple wires coming out the bottom.
The TC actually generates a small electrical current from the heat of the Pilot.
This electrical current is sensed by the control board, or the Main Gas Valve.
As long as there is a pilot, it is safe for the Main gas valve to open, and admit the large amount of gas into the heating burner.

Now-- What helps this TC work the best?
It needs to be just at the edge of the pilot flame--- Not too much in the flame, or the resulting poor combustion of the pilot flame, results in soot forming on the TC-- which insulated the TC from sufficient heat.
Obviously the TC has to be clean (of soot) in order to receive enough heat, to generate the needed voltage to tell the valve that it is safe to open.
And age does deteriorate the TC-- some last a few years, but that is about the end of life for most.
Replacing requires getting down where the TC is, and with a screw driver (usually)-- lossening the bracket that holds the TC. Pay attention to where the wires are routed, and any polarity indicated on the old wires, and duplicate on the new one. Duplicate routing, and polarity, and position the new TC at the edge of the pilot flame.
Pilot flame is maintained by pushing some over ride button-- for a minute or two, until when you begin to release the button, you can feel that the voltage generated by the TC is now holding the pilot valve open, instead of your pressure on the 'start' button.

I have a Garland stove series #G286, the oven won't stay lit.

it sounds like a venting problem, the oven heats up and it not venting,it will put the pilot out.

Bakers pride pizza oven

does it light then immediately go out? if yes, usually you have to hold in a button to allow gas to flow while you light the pilot, and hold this button until the therm0-couple is heated with the pilot flame. If the thermo-couple is not sufficiently heated and you let go of this button, the pilot light will go out as the safety circuit thinks there's no flame and unburned gas is entering the oven.

The other thing you could do is adjust the height of the pilot flame... there's usually an adjustment screw near the button described above which will allow you to adjust the height of the flame. Make the flame just big enough to guarantee that it keeps the thermo-couple hot AND that it can light the oven without being blown out.

Good luck.

60" double oven gas Garland stove

We use a Garland from the 1960's and pilot lights ARE scary and should make you nervous. This is why they are no longer allowed in new gas ranges. I mounted an inline gas shut off to the stove where the gas enters (on mine this is right in front on the left side). It turns on and off like a burner and when we are done cooking we simply shut off the gas there. To light the burners or the stove I use one of those long reach lighters. I go to bed knowing that NO gas is coming in.
We love the stove, it makes cooking more fun.
Good Luck!
