I have the exact same problem. My mouse works everywhere except in the body of a word document. It works in the menus of Word, but not in the text body. I have vista on an HP laptop and word 2007 full version. I have uninstalled student version of Word and installed full version and same problem. I have rebooted many times and installed all windows and word updates.

I've had this problem 3 times! It's soooo annoying. I also get my computer all of a suddenly freezing on me when I'm in Word. I have to shut down everything and reboot.

My mouse also will not work in the body of MicroSoft Word. I am running Visat as well. When I try an close the Office program I receive an error that the program has stopped working.

I have the same problem in very similar circumstances. I have an HP laptop running Vista with Word 2007 Student Edition. I cannot click on or select text using the mouse, and I cannot right click. When I close Word I also receive an error that Word has stopped working.

    Rebooting does not fix it.

My mouse will not select text in office 2007! I can't move te scrool bar, and my documents do not open when i double click them. The keyboard works fine for 2007, the mouse moves and i can select items in the title bar, but no selection on the page. Also, when I select "word options" i can't change anything except "popular". Very dissapointed in this product!

Have the same issue with the mouse not selecting anything in the word doc. :(

I had the same problem but the fix outlined below seemed to work fine!!

This seems to be a common problem...it has something to do with Add-Ins, and there are 2 steps you need to cure it.

Step 1--to fix the mouse problem:
Go into Regedit and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
One at a time, change the LOADBEHAVIOR key from 3 to 0 for your add-ins to find out which one is causing the problem

Step 2--to fix the Crash on Close problem
    1. Close Word and Outlook
    2. Start / Run and type regedit
    3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
    4. Rename this key.
    5. Restart Word

So, I have the same problem with word 2007 the mouse is not working. The solution that you are giving only solve this problem till you want to click out of word to an other program. In fact the problem is created at that time. try . you run word and than try to copy any thing from power point word will stop working again and creates a new corrupt data key.

Anybody has already fund the solution for this?

this is not working only till you work inside word, if you pull out anfd back, the problem is still the same

    hey!
    both problems solved.
when it sais "rename" can i just rename to anything? i have renamed to "datanew".
    seems to solve it all.
    p.s.
the add in with the problem was:
    STOComAddInMSWORD.STOComAddInMSWORD
    if it helps someone.
    thanks richard 2008!
    you did it!

My son did something to my computer and now the mouse does not move the cursor. How can I fix this? I have XP.

1) Is it wireless? Check batteries/re-synchronize.
2) Check the plug/connector at the mouse port on the back of the computer-loose/unplugged?
3) Broken mouse? Try plugging in a different mouse-one you know works.(New optical mice are relatively inexpensive-$10 or so)

If nothing above helps, use ARROW keys, TAB button and ENTER button to move around, and do the following:

go to windows START(lower left corner)
go to system
go to device manager

Now find your device MOUSE (yellow triangle indicates error)

Open your mouse ("Mice and other pointing devices")

On the first Tab GENERAL, it should say if the device is working properly or not.

You can DISABLE the mouse on the second Tab DRIVER, see if he disabled it. (You can enable it.)

Hope this helps.

First, try to start it in safe mode. To do that, go to start, run, and type in WinWord.exe /safe. From there you have the option to go to the Office button (the one with the office logo in the top left corner) and go to Word Options. Then go to Resources, and click on the Diagnose button. If that doesn't help, you can also go to start, settings, control panel, add/remove programs, and choose to repair word specifically. If that doesn't work, do a FULL uninstall. After it uninstalls, don't reboot yet. Go to My computer, C drive, Program Files, and COMPLETELY DELETE the Microsoft Office folder. Then empty the recycle bin. That usually gets all the stubborn pieces out. In extreme cases, you may need to go to start, run, type in regedit, and do a search for all "office" entries in the registry and delete, them, but this is often taken care of with the reboot and highly advised against to play in the registry unless you know what you're doing. After you completely turn your computer off and turn it back on, reinstall the program and after that HOPEFULLY it works!!

Ord 2007 and Vista

Jesus Saves
You should too!
ALWAYS save your files regularly during working on it.
There is an UNDO under the EDIT menu, but that is to late now.
IF you had done ANY 'save" at all, at last resort you could have just exited the program, re-opened the saved file and you would have the file as it was last saved.
Right now you can:
Go to TOOLS, Options, hit the SAVE tab. Tweak as you like.

As far as document recovery now, there is nothing that can be done at this time... except TRYING to have a Document Recovery $peciali$t work on it. How long are you willing to be without your hard drive or computer?
