Re: dell inspiron 2200 would not start
If your ac adapter is working fine with similar other system. the only thing to be replaced will be the systemboard. if you are in United States you can call 1-800-624-9896(United States).and if its not or you r not sure either logon to http://tinyurl.com/3ykjjr its a dell website . you can punchin your system's service tag and can get info regarding every Dell system. and if your system is out of warranty you can call 1-800-288-4410 EXT-7260623. its for Dell out of warranty repair. they will pick up your laptop and will throughly check it. what ever part needs to be replaced they will let you know.
if you can provide me your service tag i can arrange a call back from Dell technical support.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

remove the battery on the system then unhook the adaptor press and hold the power botton down for 10 seconds this is to power drain *********** board...... then conenct the adaptor without the battery power the system on if it powers on leave it on for a minute or 2 then shut it down again inset the battery turn system back on if it does not turn on with battery something is wrong with the system motherboard conflicting with the battery in it call dell for options if in warranty
adapter should be fine..if light comes on adapter should be good...leave battery out of the system...just use adapter and when starting system up tap f12...see if u can see this menu..if not try a external monitor to see if u can get a image..if so run the diagnostic..if still no image or no external monitor it may be a mb
If the laptop will run from the adaptor, then the adaptor is probably fine. That being the case, if the charge light flashes when the adaptor is plugged in, the battery is faulty. No charge light on an otherwise working system is probably the battery charging circuit in the laptop.
Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty. If not, Try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty. If not, Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.
Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.
check the metal post inside the power jack connection. very carifully try to wiggle the metal post and see if it moves or if its there at all. if the post wiggles, it is probably broken and needs to be re-soldered...only someone who knows how to do that should as you could damage the board trying yourself.
also try plugging it in without the battery.
do any lights come on at all when its plugged in or power buttons are pressed?
the vr\ery first thing what u have to do is that disconnect the ac adaptor and take the battery out of the computer and then press and hold down the power button without the battery and the adaptor for one minute and then connect the ac adaptor and put the battery back in and then try and turn it on and what u can do is that try and turn on the computer only with the battery and then take the battery out and try and turn it on only with the adaptor, and then what u can try is that try with the different adaptor having same configuration, and try and connect the ac adaptor into the different wall outlet....good luck
Laptops can run without battery with the AC, and it's fine, does not harm.
But however, I do not recommend you removing the battery and using the notebook with AC adapter only. The notebook is designed to be portable and with battery plugged in. In addition, using AC adapter only may cause the system to overheat since it is getting and using direct power from the power outlet.
Sometimes when you take out the battery your laptop doesn't work. But that issue usually is related with some problem with the connectors of your motherboard.

The blinking orange battery light generally indicates that the battery isn't working properly, usually going out and not charging properly. In this case, since the adapter will not power the machine without the battery, and it should, I'm going to say that the adapter is going out and not getting the proper amount of power to the system. Try replacing the adapter. Be sure to replace it with a Dell replacement, the Targus brand universal adapters do not work well with Dell machines, and in most cases won't work at all.
