Generic problem for all MP3 and Digital Media Players

my mp3 player had music on it put on by my mom's computer. Then i tried to copy the music from my player to my computer to put it on a different mp3 player. But then when i was going to use my original mp3 player, then where i had originally had my music, it showed &then some wierd signs then& &, & Plus none of my music played. i tried resetting it, but that didn't work. PLEASE HELP...i don't want to buy another mp3 player!
