HP 2600N Power up problem

I purchased an HP laserjet 2600N in April. I have always experienced the following problem. When I turn on the power switch the printer appears to start up. I can hear the motors and paper rollers going through their start up cycle, but no front panel lights are visible and the display is blank. If I switch the power off and on again using the printer power switch the front panel lights and display come on and the printer works fine. I contacted HP on line support who suggested I upgrade the printer firmware to the latest version. I did this -but no change - still the same start up problem every time I switch on. Makes no difference if I power up the printer after the computer is powered up or vice versa.
The printer is connected to a single computer [no network] using a USB port. Operating system is windows XP SP2. Apart from this start up problem the printer seem to function correctly and the print quality is fine. Any ideas on what could be causing this

Thaks for the suggestion, but I had already tried powering the printer from a separate wall socket and it made no difference.

Contacted HP support again and they have agreed to take the printer back and fix it under warranty.

Same problem. No lights, hear motor. Sometimes we get lights then it is fine. No rhyme or reason.

I have the same problem. I have to keep turning it off and on until it comes back to life. Unfortunately I have had the printer for quite a while, so no warranty fix. HP are you listening?
