Hitachi 50v710 Yellow spot

I have the nasty Yellow spot in the middle of the screen on my Hitachi 50v710. I called Hitachi customer service to see about getting another light engine or "Optical block". They basically told me to pound sand since I was 1 1/2 years past the one year warranty. They claim that it's not a common problem and they've never really heard of it happening. They weren't going to do anything to help. now I'm stuck with a TV that needs a $1000 part that's not really worth the gamble to fix ... something else is bound to go too.

I have a Hitachi 50V710 that is greenish yellow throughout the entire center of the screen. Adjusting tint etc. doesn't touch it. Any suggestions on where to look and how much it will cost us to replace the light engine?

I have a 50" Hitachi (Hate-a-tachi) that has had the light engine replaced twice within a (3) year time frame. The parts and labor would have been $1100.00+ each time. Lucky I had insurance. But now the large blue spot in the center of the screen is back. And, from reading all of the posted problems, it's obvious that Hitachi has been aware of this flaw in their product for quite sometime. Should have stuck with a Sony. Will not buy Hitachi again.

After reading these it appears the yellow spot is there to stay. Our yellow spot started soon after we put a new projection bulb into our Hitachi. I thought the bulb was expensive at $240!

I have a Hitachi 50v710 and there is a yellow/ greenish spot in the middle of it and ruins the picture. Even after replacing the damn bulb!

I found out that Hitachi has a class action law suit against them for the light engine problem. I called them and asked what they were going to do for my tv which is out of warrenty. The reply was that they would pay for new light engine. I said what about labor. No they would not pay for labor. I asked to speak to supervisor. I was told by supervisor that the tv had to be inspected by certified repair person. Cost for this was $125 but would be applied towards the total labor cost. Repair guy came to house walked in and said he did not even have to turn tv on to know the problem. We called Hitachi to set up shipment of part. Hitachi told me at that point that they would cover all labor costs also. Part has been installed this week and tv is like brand new set.

You should be able to call Hitachi at 1800-Hitachi
and they should be able to tell you if that part number
is accurate. I am always a little leary of doing business with companies that claim to have parts and are not a Authorize Parts retailers for the manufactured part I am seeking. If they have a good return policy, they are probably ok.
I hope this helps,

I have a Hitachhi 52

Sorry to say, But its probably the light engine.Hitachi has had big problems with this, its all over the net about this kind of problem. If the set is not very old, you may try to call Hitachi and complain, They did replace mine in my 50V715 but I had to pay a service call of $300 to have an authorized dealer replace it. Hope this is helpful.

You are correct on the diagnosis of the problem. I would contact a reapir shop and ask them how much labor cost is if you bring them the set and the new light engine.

I had a certified Hitachi service guy look at my tv and he said it was the light engine. Called Hitachi customer service and they were aware of issues with this part. They agreed to cover the part if I would pay for the labor. Labor cost me around $250. Hope this helps.

Hitachi 50V710 has a yellowish circle in the middle of the screen

If you're good with electronics you can probably do it yourself. It's the price of the part that hurts ... around $1000.

Hitachi 50V710 Yellow screen

I contacted Hitachi (800-448-2244) on 02-18-09 and spoke with customer service rep. name Joyce. I explained the yellow in the middle of the screen and told here a Tech came out and said that the problem was the light engine not the light unit. She immediately said that she would send a brand new Light Engine to the repair company that diagonsed the problem. She said I would have to pay for labor. The light engine is a $1000+ part and the repair company said labor would be $300 dollars. The key is you have to say that a tech looked at it and diagonsed it as the light engine and not the light unit. Find a repair company in your area and let the customer service rep. know that they looked at it about a month ago and you can't find the paperwork. The customer service rep will then recommend a company in your area to come and look at the TV. The tech company will probably charge a tech fee $100+ dollars, and about $300 for labor, all total $400 for parts and labor is not bad when the Light Engine itself is a $1000+ part. Hope this helps.
