-   (2 months past "parts and hardware" warrantee) My performance problems are many, including the in-ability to "system-restore" among other things. Since my video games weren't working (graphics and display errors) and DVD's wouldn't play I started looking into my video card drivers... HARDWARE TROUBLESHOOTER diagnostics told me I had "null" video card... I knew "WE" had the exact same problem when you mentioned the tiny yellow lines running vertically through the screen (at all times.) That just suddenly occurred a few days ago... I've been running around in circles trying to narrow it down and wound up here. The only thing I am sure of is that all of windows XP, even windows media player
codecs, will only accept/run drivers from windows specific sources. I have the HP Pavilion zd8000 and every time I tried to install/run any non-
pre-installed (OS software bundle) CD burning software I
eventually ended up reformatting just to effectively restore defaults. Interestingly; even before trying new burning software, I could burn DVDs all day long, but the original CD burning (rom) slowly quit functioning and had to be replaced. It would always PLAY/run/rip anything, and burn DVDs
indefinitely, and for a month or so successfully burned audio/data
CDs, but just slowed down and eventually completely lost the ability to burn audio/data
CDs. HP really didn't want to replace the rom, but eventually had to.
NEXT QUESTION: since we have all had the same prob. with the
ATI Mobility
Radeon X600 128MB... it seems to be flawed in design. I agree with the above advice to simply go buy another laptop, I think it's the only certain (cost effective) solution. So the question is, for us gamers and graphics heavy users, which laptop with what video card next? I am thinking about that really heavy-duty
indestructible panasonic laptop but wonder about the graphics and gaming capabilities. My last thought on this pavilion laptop is it has the
wide-screen and number pad, and weighs 12 lbs... It's not fun (heavy) hauling it to and from college on the city bus, standing at the bus stop, carrying it under my
trench-coat in the rainy pacific northwest. My next laptop priority will be more lightweight.
