Question about Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II Digital Camera

Diopter adjustment and viewfinder problem

The green viewfinder information is out of focus and there is a reflection of the actual view through the lens in the base of the viewfinder. Also the viewfinder lever does not work properly and if I turn the diopter adjustment wheel this seems to affect the viewfinder display and not the image itself, which cannot be seen in focus through the lens.
There is a rattle from the mirror housing so something has obviously come loose.
I have owned 5 Eos 1's and never come across this before ?
Is there a way for me to get inside the housing to fix this ?
Many thanks,

Hi
I would not attempt to open the camera for any sort of fix. It has weather seals in place and would recommend sending it in to Canon. If you have any warranties left it would void these. Lastly this is a high proformance bit of kit and you want to get is seen to by an Authourised Canon Dealer.

As for the diopter adustment. To be able to see through the view finder and see your subject clearly, take of the lens cap aim the camera and turn the little dial until the screen inside the viewfinder is clear it should not be fuzzy. You are only looking at the screen/gring and not the image beyond. This does not affect your image but does effect how clearly you see your subject through the viewfinder.

Hope this helps

Why is the image in the view finder blurry

There could be several reasons.

The camera isn't focused. Adjust the focus.

The diopter is not set properly. Some cameras have a viewfinder diopter adjustment. This is similar to putting eyeglasses on the camera. Just as things will look blurry to you if you look through someone else's glasses, the viewfinder will be blurry if the diopter is not set properly for your vision. I wish I could tell you how to adjust this (or even whether your camera has it) but since you didn't bother to specify the model of your Olympus camera...

Canon 1d mark 4 camera viewfinder problem

Adjust the viewfinder diopter to match your eye. Remove the rubber eyecup by grasping both sides and sliding it up. Turn the little knob to the left of the viewfinder until the focus points or center metering circle appear sharp. Replace the eyecup.

My camera won't focus!

While looking through the viewfinder, turn the diopter adjustment knob just above and right of the viewfinder to adjust it until the focus marks and other information in the viewfinder become sharp to your eye.

I have a Cannon EOS Rebel xsi SLR camera. When I look through the viewfinder the image is blurred. IT worked fine the last time I used it, but this time it is blurred and I haven;t been able to correct...

Two possible situations. It might be that the lens focusing system isn't working. Try focusing by hand (turn the lens manually) If the image moves through a point of sharp focus, then you have a lens or focus motor problem.
More likely, you have improperly adjusted the diopter. There is a small, circular wheel on the right side of the viewfinder, toward the top corner. It is sometimes covered by the rubber viewfinder hood so you might not notice it. This adjusts the diopter correction in the viewfinder and if it's set wrong, nothing will ever look in focus. The pictures would be fine, but since the diopter is a correction for your eyesight, the viewfinder will be out of focus.

There's a diopter adjustment knob just to the right of the viewfinder. Turn it while looking through the viewfinder at a blank wall until the numbers in the viewfinder appear sharp. This knob allows the camera to adjust for individual eyesight.

Perfectly good photos but image in view finder will not focus Nikon D80 camera

Try adjusting the viewfinder diopter. There's a little dial just to the right of the viewfinder. Turn it while looking through the viewfinder. You want to be looking at an unfocused view or a blank wall. Turn the dial until the focus brackets are sharp. Make sure you do this with your shooting eye.

All my photos are slightly out of focus-no matter what setting i'm on.

One possibility that you can correct:
The eyepiece (viewfiender) diopter is out of adjustment for your eyesight.
Look at the viewfinder and locate the "slider".
Now look through the eyepiece (viewfinder) while in auto-focus mode.
Adjust the slider, left or right, until the image looks sharp to you.
If you wear corrective glasses, you can adjust the diopter whether you use your glasses or not.

This solution assumes that you are shooting in auto-focus; however, this also works in manual mode.

Check the mirror. The image you see in the viewfinder comes through the lens, and is reflected by the mirror. If it's dirty, it will affect the image you see. When you take the picture, the mirror lifts up, the viewfinder image is interrupted, and the light from the lens goes to the image sensor. So...if the mirror is dirty, the picture will be fine but the viewfinder image will be dark or out of focus.

Yes, many people can use the diopter control to fix the manual focus set-up. Others have had to send the camera back to Sony for internal adjustments.
