How to get your Dell 964 AIO printer to work correctly in Windows 7

Read through all the steps and get a good understanding of process before starting.

Step 1:
Perform manual Un-installation of OLD printer drivers Click Start > Devices And Printers, right-click on the Dell AIO 964 printer icon, and click on Remove This Device.

Step 2: Unplug the USB cable from the computer.

Step 3: Download the ZIP file R166225.ZIP from the Dell website here:

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R166225&formatcnt=2&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=224455

Step 4:
Extract all the files from R166225.ZIP intoa separate folder by themselves. Remember the location of the folder for later use. It would be best to create a new folder and extract the files to that folder to make it easier.

Step 5: Navigate to the directory you extracted the files to, locate SETUP.EXE, and run it. This will run the Dell Clean-Up Utility, which removes old printer drivers/files from your system. You may need to navigate to a sub-folder named "CleanUp_Utility" under the folder that you just created in order to run SETUP.EXE.

Step 6: Reboot the computer when prompted.

Step 7: Download the self-extracting file R146813.EXE here:

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R146813&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=195111

Step 8:
Navigate to the file R146813.EXE, right-click the file name, click Properties, click the Compatibility Tab, and check off the following check boxes: Runthis program in compatibility mode for: (then select Windows VistaService Pack 2), and Run this program as an administrator.

Step 9:
Right-click SETUP.EXE, click Run as Administrator, and run SETUP.EXE.You might be able to get away with just running the executable withoutthis step, but I included it for redundancy and for safety's sake.

Step 10: Re-connect the USB cable to your computer when prompted by the Setup Utility. A small warning: when I did this step, Windows detected my printer and installed its own native drivers forthe printer, and a dialog box popped up attempting to print analignment page. I ignored this dialog box entirely. If this happens, you will be prompted by the Setup Utility to update the driver, which is what you want to do. Continue to run the Setup Utility as normal.

Step 11: Reboot the computer again.

Step 12:
After starting up Windows 7 and logging in, Click Start > Devices and Printers, double-click the printer icon. Click Customize your Printer, then the Ports Tab. Check off "Enable bidirectional support."

Step 13:
Verify that the printer is communicating with the operating system by printing a test page. You can go back to Customize your Printer and click Print Test Page.

Step 14:
If it still doesn't work try and reboot and try printing test page again.

Thank you and enjoy the tip.

I have a zebra p520i printer. My company recently upgraded to a windows 7 operating system. The old drivers v2.00 will not work with windows 7. Where do I find the proper drivers?

You could try here

http://www.bravofiles.com/download/P520i-USB-Card-Printer-8Jdu4kedAQ.html

This is a discontinued product so future drivers might be unlikely.

I have a Dell 944 all-in-one printer and just got a new Toshiba laptop. The new laptop uses Windows 7, which is not supported by the printer. Is there an update to the drivers & utilities to make...

Did you try the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode. Drivers and instructions can be found at...
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3528/t/19306932.aspx

Let me know what happens.

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)
***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Hi,
you will need to install the printer software compatible for windows 7 available in the manufacturer's website for download. Check the version of your operating system if you have 64-bit or 32-bit OS. To check go to start > right click computer > click properties. Download the proper driver package by going to this link : http://bit.ly/dq2FVh . Click on Microsoft tab. Download cjq3500-4500Win7en.exe for 64-bit or cjb3500-4500Win7en.exe for 32-bit. Install the software. Hope this helps.

Failed Wireless Setup/could not create new port

Check this link for wireless setup:

There are Vista 64 drivers on the CD that came with the printer, but if you want to download, you should download the network drivers if you are installing the printer to work on a wireless local area network (LAN).

Navigate to the CD drive. To do this, click on "Computer" either from the desktop or from the Windows logo round button on the lower left of your screen. You should find "Computer" on the menu. Once in there, right-click on your CD drive and select explore. This will show you the contents of the CD. Double click on the setup.exe file to run the setup and installation.

I have a Dell 964 AIO Printer that has worked just fine on my home network using Windows XP. I recently added a Dell Computer Desktop utilizing Windows Vista and cannot get the printer to communicate.

* * * WINDOWS 7 DRIVER ISSUE FOR DELL PHOTO PRINTER AIO 964 SOLVED !!! * * *

After doing a Google Search for a work-around solution to this issue, I finally discovered a successful method of allowing the Dell Photo Printer All-In-One 964 to work with the Windows 7 Operating System. I am also quite certain that this solution will work with the Vista Operating System as well. The full thread of the solution can be found here:

http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19274021.aspx

Below, I will detail the steps necessary to accomplish this fix and get the Dell AIO 964 printer working correctly with Windows 7:

1) Perform a manual uninstall of all of the old printer drivers that are installed in the system by going to Start > Devices And Printers, right-clicking on the Dell AIO 964 icon, and clicking on Remove This Device.

2) Unplug the USB cable from the computer.

3) Download the ZIP Archive file R166225.ZIP from the Dell Support website here:

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R166225&formatcnt=2&libid=0&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=224455

4)
Extract all the files from R166225.ZIP into a separate folder by themselves. Remember to write down the location of this folder and these files for later use. For example, you could create a new folder named "DELL964" and extract the files there.

5) Navigate to the directory you extracted the files to, locate SETUP.EXE, and run it. This will run the Dell Clean-Up Utility, which effectively removes any old printer drivers or files from your system. (You might need to navigate to a sub-folder named "CleanUp_Utility" under the folder that you just created in order to run SETUP.EXE. This is where the executable file was located on my system at this point.)

6) Reboot the computer when prompted by the Dell Clean-Up Utility.

7) After the computer reboots and Windows 7 starts back up, log back in.

8) Download the self-extracting file R146813.EXE here:

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R146813&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=195111

9)
Navigate to the file R146813.EXE, right-click the filename, click Properties, click the Compatibility Tab, and check off the following check boxes: Run this program in compatibility mode for: (then select Windows Vista Service Pack 2), and Run this program as an administrator.

10)
Right-click SETUP.EXE, click Run as Adminstrator, and run SETUP.EXE. You might be able to get away with just running the executable without this step, but I included it for redundancy and for safety's sake.

11) Re-connect the USB cable to your computer when prompted by the Setup Utility. A small warning: when I did this step, Windows detected my printer and installed its own native drivers for the printer, and a dialog box popped up attempting to print an alignment page. I ignored this dialog box entirely. If this happens, you will be prompted by the Setup Utility to update the driver, which is what you want to do. Continue to run the Setup Utility as normal.

12) Reboot the computer once again.

13)
After starting up Windows 7 and logging in, go to Start > Devices and Printers, and left-click the icon for the printer twice. Click Customize your Printer, then the Ports Tab. Check off "Enable bidrectional support."

14)
Verify that the printer is communicating with the operating system by printing a test page. This can be accomplished by returning to Customize your Printer and click Print Test Page.

15)
If at this point your printer refuses to print and you are still getting the error that it cannot communicate with the computer, reboot, restart Windows 7, login, and repeat Step 14.
