Same Xerox 6250 whine and paper jam

My 6250DP has the same whine and paper jam. It happens about 50% of the time. I had the repairman come and replace the main drive assembly and that didn't fix it. I saw this post about the registration clutch so he ordered that part but that didn't solve the problem either. So, we removed the new parts and I'm back to the original parts. Any other ideas? The repairman said the next repairs would be more costly like the Control board (over $400). Is it worth the money trying to repair? I just put in a new Imaging Unit and all new ink cartridges so I need to use a little while longer since I just spent all that money. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

I checked the pins and the rollers and all look fine. There don't seem to be any broken pins and the "D" rollers don't slip on shaft.

I'm pretty sure the repairman replaced the entire registration assembly since I gave him the part number from your earlier post. Do you think I should have him try another one? Right now whenever we print we stand by the printer to listen for "the whine". If it starts whining we open up the printer before it starts printing the first page. Sometimes it will take 2-3 times before the whining stops. It doesn't seem to occur as much if you select heavier paper. When the printer slows down it seems much better but maybe that's just a coincidence. If it starts OK, then you're OK. It's only on that first sheet when the whine occurs.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

I have 3 x of these Xerox Phaser 6250 Printers and they all have the Whine and paper jam issue! 1st page only, if it can print the first page then your ok.
If it whines then you are knackered. I think it has something todo with what ever controls the paper thickness, due to the fact if you load a thicker paper and select that paper in the options then the problem does seem to vanish... Problem is I can't afford to do all the reporting on Thick paper, and why should I have to... it's not like these printers are cheap!!

Same issue; I replaced the registration roller myself, it worked for about a week and now I have the whine and paper jam back again. I just purchased new ink when I though I had it fixed, but I am ready to throw out the window.

I have the same problem and have solved it by replacing the fuser. I don't know why this works, but the whine goes away and the jams stop. In my case, the printer says jam at registration roller, but the paper stops at the fuser, so that's what led me to try a new fuser. I'm not getting as much life out of my fusers as the printer says I should, but it's sure better than constant jamming. . .

Search or for 6250FMSFix.psx, which is the driver to fix the fuser stall problem. When we downloaded the file 4 years ago, there was no link to the correct page. We had to do a google search on the site to find it. Other key words you might look for are "fuser", "stall", and "snippet". There is a FuserReadme.txt file that goes with this. It tells you how to put the file into the printer with ftp (that sounds safe; you did change the administrator password, didn't you?).

You sure he replaced the entire registration assembly? That is a very common problem . And you are explaining it to a T with one exception I can think of.
Remove the paper tray and look in the opening, there are "D" shaped rollers in that feeder area. Sometimes one of the pins in the roller snaps and causes the paper to drag because the roller is not spinning, just dragging on the paper.
The way to check is just put your hand on the D shaped roller, and see if it spins easily on the shaft. It should NOT spin on the shaft. Those 2 rollers are 10-12 inches in from the front of the paper tray.
I would suspect that even the new clutch if replaced is bad. That is a very common problem.

Phaser 6250 DP keeps on jamming at Fuser.

Paper type set correctly? Does the paper enter the fuser? If not, the fuser drive has failed, replacing the fuser may correct it.

Xerox 6250 - Jam at Registration Roller

Are the tabs in those D shaped rollers broke?
They will snap off into the shaft, but still be on the shaft. Not uncommon.
reach in and hold the steel shaft with one hand and see of those rollers spin freely. If so the plastic pins inside the roller have broken. It is not uncommon on that machine. Pop one off and see if there is a plastic pin inside the roller.

That problem is the registration clutch.
You have to order the registration assembly to get the clutch. It is located on assembly with the black and stainless steel roller, you have to pop out the imaging unit to see it.
But that WILL fix your problem. They changed the style of clutch also. It is more reliable now.

Xerox Phaser 6250N Jam at Registration Roller

I use to have the same problem, but downloaded a fuser patch at the Xerox site:,kb=Phaser_6250,company=%7B5AC8CA72-62D5-4658-8D6F-D2F393C98A63%7D,ts=xo,ques=ref%28security_level%29:1,ques=ref%28Country%29:45,/,case=R1001052703

if that link doesn't work, go to the Xerox site and look in the area:

Home > Support & Drivers > Phaser 6250 > Knowledge Base

Follow the instructions and hopefully your printer problem will be resolved.

Paper jams

Check to see if there is anything stopping the paper like a small piece of paper/paperclip.
Also see if the reg rollers are turning.
