Providing that OS you are using contains the drivers necessary for this swap, and the drives use the same connection technology, yes this is possible.
To better answer your question, you can not harm anything attempting to boot from a drive which came from another computer, providing you make no modifications to both software and/or hardware for the connection.
It is common place for a device attempting to boot from a "foreign" Windows install/drive to Blue-screen or "Crash." You may attempt to install the drivers necessary utilizing Safe-Mode.
To enter Safe-Mode continuously hit the "F8" key on your keyboard during power-on.
If the device fails to boot to Safe-Mode, than your only option is to transfer any data necessary from one drive to another medium, or utilize both drives at once with an external device designed for your drive.
