I'm looking for capstan belts too, for a Sony CFD-C1000 - anyone know if there is any source of 'generic' belts? This is just a glorified rubber band; 200mm circumference, square x-section 1mm.

How do i record in both directions on a teac x-1000 on 1/4 inch tape

  • That wheel that is on the capstan you remove the longer belt from the motor and the lever the capstan flywheel so that you can reach the pulley on the flywheel fit the belt over and the push the capstan back by pushing the little plastics retainer rings back into position. This is a very common mechanism and if you cannot obtain a belt then take your original belt and go to a shop that do hydraulic o ring and get an o ring that is the same size it is NOT necessary to get a square belt as round belts are plenty full and quite cheap I have tape recorders that run more than ten years with o rings

Sony TC-WE435 drive belts

It is a simple process of either taking the old ones off and measuring or if they are broken use a string and measure then subtract 5% or the easy way is to just order the belt kit from Marrs Communications where he has done all the ground work for you but then you still need to put them in. This may require a bit of dis-assembly such as removing the transport from the chassis and then taking off thrust plates or motor support brackets to get to the place you need to get to put the belts on. There are no service manuals that give you step by step instruction- at least I have not seen any in 42 years of service. If you want to save money you will have to do the job yourself. If you want a professional, well I am here but depending on the amount of time it takes it might not be cheap. If you really want to get the parts cheaper then MCM Electronics or Mat Electronics can sell you the belts for a little bit of money as long as you know the size. Size refers to Inner Circumference, Width and Thickness. In the case of square belts Width and Thickness is the same number but with Flat belts used on most Capstan and flywheel systems the width and thickness is important.

JVC TD-W718 double tape deck capstan belt

Probably the wrong belt. It is also possible that your old belt had stretched and the machine was playing slow. Check with a recording of instrumental (not vocal) music.

If you have a little screwdriver you can adjust the motor's speed via the little hole on the back of the motor.

I suggest a plastic screwdriver so you don't short something out.

Using a tuning fork or electronic tuner or musical instrument will help you get the speed right.

I need a capstan drive belt for a TEAC 3440 reel to reel recorder. Wherr can I find one?

Just measure the diameter in MM and put the result into google with the words 'cassette drive belt'. Belts are not maker specfic.

Belt kit for kx1030 One thin belt and one flat

Belts are measured in mm by the diameter. Though you will also need to measure the thickness. Belts are generally none specfic, to makers, so you have a good chance of getting them.
A good place to try first is online parts shop CPC.

I need a drive belt for Sony tape-cd player #CFD-17

All you need to do is measure the diameter and thickness, then enter the details into google, just start with the diameter you can then elimanate the wrong size (thickness) later. IE enter: 60mm Drive Belt.

TEAC model A1500 tape recorder

What i did to solve this problem on my A-1500 was to remove the tension arm, the pinch roller and the front face holding screws , pull off the rubber faces from the reel hubs and remove them, remove the front metal face plate... in back remove the wood backing panel... inside the deck rear, remove, (without letting them fall into the mechanism) 4 screws that anchor the heavy front cast piece that holds the capstan flywheel...carefully lift the cast piece that holds the flywheel. away from the deck face just enough to allow the old belt be removed, and the new one installed...ensure the belt is installed and goes all around the flywheel..and is not pinched when you push the casting back against the deck face and reinstall the 4 rear anchor screws. place the belt around the upper drive motor pulley wheel.. small diameter part on motor pulley and large diameter part on flywheel for users of 60 hz. Ensure 60hz is selected on switch..or 50hz if that is what you need.(for 50hz ensure belt is on large motor pulley part and smaller flywheel diameter part. with deck lying down or leaning, place a few drops of light lube oil into the felt at the bearing hole for the flywheel. Give the deck a test playback before completely reassembling and putting all the parts back where they were.
