Ive tryed to restart it, but it wotn even do that. i plugged it in also to see if it was just dead but the comp wont even recognize that its plugged in. the screen just stays black and idk what to do.

Yes it's happening to me too and it happened today! i thought it was the leap year but i guess it wasnt, and then i kept searching and then it said something about static electricity. Now i'm confused and lonely without my zune...i love it! its on the black screen, it wont turn on, charge or reboot. First step is to let it drain completely and then plug it in once fully dead to see if it resets itself and clears the problem. If that doesn't work the next step Soft Reset: Plug it in to the computer. If the computer recognizes it you can likely reset it. to do that push and holding the back and up buttons together. Even if not recognized try doing this. Hard Reset: this will erase the information on your zune and restore it to factory settings with no information on it. Try manually rebooting the Zune by holding the back button and the up direction on the pad for several seconds. Let go of the buttons when you see it restart.
I would first allow the Zune to completely charge (the battery symbol should be full and green[i believe--it's been a while since I first got mine]).
I would then unplug the device and restart the computer. Once your computer has completely rebooted connect the device to the computer and see if it detects the device. It should work. Also you might try another USB port.
This is a fatal error porblem. If you go to the Zune Microsoft website you will find many others have the same problem. There is no fix for it as of yesterday afternoon. We have had problems with our 30 and 8 gb Zunes and finally returned then to Best Buy and got IPods.
unplug the zune. hold the back button and hold the up button until the zune restarts. wait until it turns back on. open the zune program. then plug in your zune. it should work.
I figured out the solution by just getting upset. Hold the Back arrow (<-) and Up on the touch pad and it will restart the Zune. This works for the 8gig and 80gig Zune.
man i have the same problem, i was listening to my black 120gb Zune & i just upgraded to firmware 3.0 & now this s*** wont turn on! i been using it 3 days fine, but now it just shut off like its completely dead. i have been charging it for hours & hours & it just doesnt even turn on or have a battery icon or anything! i have it plugged in now too. restarted the computer, everything.... i tried to restart it by pressing back & up... are there any other shortcuts i can try? computer doesnt detect it or ANYTHING!!! HELLLLLP
