Question about Computers & Internet

Hi there, I have a business with cctv installed, I recently got a new dvr and camera's put in. the technician who installed them gave me the static ip address to use when logging into the system from my laptop at home. but it does not seem to be working for me. I have tried turning off the firewall and configuring my router to forward the port to connect to the dvr, but nothing seems to be working. as its the wknd, i cannot contact the technican to try and solve this, so was just hoping to get some ideas here. my router is a vodafone home gateway, laptop is sony vaio vgn-nr32l. I was able to connect to the dvr with my laptop in my business through my wifi there, dont know if that will give any clues?

For that you have to check DVR settings there is option on dvr "access from the internet" it must be enable if you want to use over internet. Also make sure the DVR is in the locally network with router. then check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a sentient cctv dvr from Maplin I can view it on my phone at home which is fine I wanted to know if I can view camera footage when I'm not at home etc. at work

Yes you can definitely view your CCTV footage on your mobile phone at your work via internet. Sentient CCTV DVR basically is a night vision camera. You must know the IP of the camera and IP Video server. Connecting your phone to CCTV camera via the protocol you can view the CCTV footage's in your phone. Night vision cameras are used for surveillance purpose. I would prefer cctv camera with ir illuminator for good image quality in the night time that will clear footage quality in my phone.
Recently many new applications have also being launched by security cameras with a view to solve problem you mentioned.

How to setup up my cctv cam to sonicwall tz170

If your camera is connected to DVR then do the port redirection on your firewall so that you shall view the cameras from internet, If your camera is directly connected to network using RJ45 simply do the port redirection to IP address of CCTV camera.

No picture on my tv from cctv camera

it is neither clear what sort of output your cctv cameras produce, nor what sort of input your dvr accepts. but, for the most part, dvrs record digital tv signals, whereas cctv cameras output analogue signals. so, even though you may be able to plug a cctv camera "straight" into a tv via a scart connector, it is unlikely that any scart connectors on a dvr have the necessary circuitry to accept such signals.

Cctv remote view/ adtran total access 900e

It's not likely that VZ gave you dynamic IP's, but it's possible. You should have been given more than one. If not, it's better to get more and a set of configuration instructions. In the last one I set up, we put a 5-port switch on the ethernet port coming off the Adtran, then fed 2 routers and a security system from the switch. Our gateway was one number lower than the bank of IP's we had, and we just gave each piece of equipment a static ip address and gateway to the gateway :-)

CCTV NETWORKING INTERNET

Best results are to use a Netopia WiFi Business Router for a DVR installation. A Siemans modems will drop the CCTV connection at random and you will have to restart the DVR manually...which defeats the purpose of having constant video being remotely accessed. We are switching to Netopia to solve our problem with AT&T and Siemans.
