Question about Dell UltraSharp 2009W LCD Monitor

2 Answers

Cannot get 2009W monitor to rotate image when used with a GATEWAY sx 2801 with an Intel G43/G45 graphics card chipset. Whant to use as a 2nd monitor with my system. First monitor is the brand new Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 Digital monitor. Dell works fine as a 2nd monitor in landscape mode but I really want to use the pivot functionality. Any ideas that could help me to get it to work would be appreciated. JB

it was a refurb so no CD included. Went to Dell website to downlaod driver - but for some reason when I downloaded the zip file there was no exec. file included to launch the driver install. Any suggestion where I can find an executable file to load the drivers.

What is visual graphic acdactor ,and the freze

A video card (also called a video adapter, display card, graphics card, graphics board, display adapter or graphics adapter) is an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display. Most video cards offer various functions such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes and 2D graphics, MPEG-2/MPEG-4 decoding, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors (multi-monitor).
Video hardware can be integrated into the motherboard or (as with more recent designs) the CPU, but all modern motherboards (and some from the 1990s) provide expansion ports to which a video card can be attached. In this configuration it is sometimes referred to as a video controller or graphics controller. Modern low-end to mid-range motherboards often include a graphics chipset manufactured by the developer of the northbridge (e.g. an AMD chipset with Radeon graphics or an Intel chipset with Intel graphics) on the motherboard. This graphics chip usually has a small quantity of embedded memory and takes some of the system's main RAM, reducing the total RAM available. This is usually called integrated graphics or on-board graphics, and is usually low in performance and undesirable for those wishing to run 3D applications. A dedicated graphics card on the other hand has its own Random Access Memory or RAM and Processor specifically for processing video images, and thus offloads this work from the CPU and system RAM. Almost all of these motherboards allow the disabling of the integrated graphics chip in BIOS, and have an AGP, PCI, or PCI Express slot for adding a higher-performance graphics card in place of the integrated graphics.

Connect dual monitors

The port with 15 holes is a VGA connector and most monitors have a connection for those it's a blue connector. The other you describe sounds like a DVI connector. Most new monitors have that as well and it's a white connector.

11750867-tewsfb12kpevcqwroz5uwqx5-2-0.jpg Once you have both monitors hooked up and turned on, they should automatically come on and show your Windows desktop. You may have to tweak the resolutions if the monitors are different. That can be done in the resolutions settings : Control Panel\Display\Screen Resolution

This video, starting around the 2 minute mark, gives a good overview of those settings and what they do.
How to Windows 7 Multiple Monitor Setup

One thing he mentions that is important is that the monitors are set to the right inputs or source. Look for a button, usually on the right or bottom of the monitor, that says "source" or "input" or has a symbol of an arrow pointing at into a screen - it looks like #2 in this photo:

http://en.community.dell.com/resized-image/__size/550x0/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3529/6354.monitor-settings.JPG

The monitor connected with the blue VGA connector usually says "VGA" or "Analog". The monitor with the white DVI connector usually says "DVI" or "Digital".

Good luck!

Trying to get my gateway LP 2417 to rotate 90 degrees from a non PC ( library image scanner) input that has no rotation option I can find in the menus.

Rotation is depended on the graphic card installed. There should be an additional item in the control panel of the computer for you graphic interface. Select it and rotation should be available there, if it's an option of the graphics card.

Intel Integrated Graphics will give decent resolution performance but is not an optimal graphics.
Ensure you are using the optimal resolution 1366x768 pixels. Using a lower resolution will give you a unsatisfactory display.
If you still don't like the graphics, you may need to add an expansion video card.

Graphics Unable to use the native resolution, such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050 and 1440x900 circuit388.gif Symptom(s):
On some displays, users may be unable to use the native resolution when using Intel® chipset graphics. Resolutions such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 1440x900 are not available in graphics properties.

Cause:
The display's EDID is not read properly when connected to some digital flat panel displays. Display devices describe its capabilities by sending EDID (Extended Display Information Data) to the computer.

Solution:
Intel has released a graphics driver to specifically address this issue; however, there may be side effects to this solution such as longer than normal resume times from standby. This solution will only work with external displays such as DFP displays connected to the computer's VGA port. This driver is not designed to address issues with a notebook's built-in display (Local Flat Panel) or with TV’s connected to the system. This driver is provided as is. Intel has not tested, and does not guarantee, the operation of the driver for this purpose.
