You probably need a new control board . To check ( if your refrig is 10 yrs or newer ) , unplug and pull the refrig out(or vise versa ) . Remove the 8" X 10" cover , revealing the control board . Remove the blue plug with 3 wires going to it . Looking at the PLUG , you will see : wire1 , wire2 , space , wire3 . Using an insulated wire with both ends stripped , insert one end into wire1 terminal and the other end into wire3 terminal . Plug the refrig back in . If the compressor runs now , the compressor is good and this verifys the board is bad . Sometimes the board can be removed and on the back side , you can see a bulls eye , where theer has come away from a pin . You can resolder this joint , there for , no need to replace the board .

Well, unfortunately you will have to replace the compressor.
you might as well replace the refrigerator for a brand new one since replacinng the compressor isn't economical.

As an appliance repair ny company we handle this issues frequently and replacing the compressor would cost you over $400

Hope it helped.

SOURCE: Freezer works Refrigerator will not cool down

The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Fan / Compressor runs constantly

Condenser fans (the fan next to the compressor) do run all of the time. That is normal.

My ac fan works but the compressor won,t kick on

The fan on the condenser or air handler? Check the capacitor on the condenser. If you don't have a meter that does uf you can take the amp draws of the comp multiplied by 2650, divided by the voltage between com and herm on the cap. If cap is good be sure compressor is not off on thermal overload, cool with water hose, careful to not soak electrical. If not hot and cap good , try hard start kit. If still no compressor ,ohm compressor, com to start plus com to run should equal start to run on ohms. Hope this helps.

Why my A/C condenser fan won t stop running, dodge ram 2008

To clarify, the compressor and fan will run in defrost mode. The compressor and fan runs to dry out the air blowing onto the windshield.
Now if the condenser fan runs in "heat" you may have a problem with the fan relay or the main controller.

switch/ fuse possible if it has one, if not one of the wire going to the motor was severed, or the start up capacitor of the motor if it also has one.

I have a True GDM10 that won't cool. Motor runs normal, Evap fan is running, no ice build up, just won't cool. Is this a coolant problem and can a True GDM10 be recharged? See no hook ups in t

First let me ask, are you sure the compressor is running? If you verified that it was running by vibrations in the compressor area just know that the condenser fan can also cause those if your machine has one. The way to tell is if the compressor is generating heat. With that said, assuming that the compressor is running, and all applicable fans are running, you need to determine if the machine was losing cool over time or did it happen overnight? If the latter of the two you'll need to isolate where the leak is, be it the evaporator or the compressor area. To actually add freon to the system if no access ports are available you;ll need to get a piercing valve, I personally use pt# bpv-31 bullet piercing valves.

Motor hums but won't kick in

Hi simpsonruth1..
In the back of the compressor motor you will see a fan, remove the plastic cover to get to it..
Once you have the plastic cover removed and the fan exposed, plug the compressor in and spin the fan with your fingers...be quick as the fan could cut your fingers if you do not get them out of the way..
If the compressor starts working, then the start capacitor is bad on the compressor...if it does not run then you have motor troubles, either replace the motor or get it rewound.

May refrigerator freezer and refrigerator won't get cold

My first reaction would be to look inside the freezer for ice buildup or if cooling at all. Check that freezer fan and condenser fan are also working when the compressor should be working. Then if everything is working topside as it appears to should be working but not cooling I would pull the refrigerator away from wall, unplug power, remove lower cover over compressor and then feel top of compressor with my hand to see if warm, cool or too hot to keep hand there. Here is a photo of compressor parts=> MSD2756G Compressor Components In that photo there are three parts I want you to consider as possible reasons if compressor is not running but very hot to the touch.A small percentage of the time it is the compressor itself that is defective and it would pay to do the test of compressor listed on this page HERE and listed near end of page as How To Check For A Burned Out Compressor.Tell me if both fans are on because that tells me the thermostat is good and calling for cold. Here are the most likely reasons your compressor may not be starting=> 12002794 Relay and Overload Kit, and 65889-4 Run Capacitor
I will be here to answer any questions you may have, Thanks, Sea Breeze

My freezer is no longer freezing food- why?

I looked up your model. This is a self defrosting model which features a fan motor for the compressor and the evaporator. If either of them 2 fans is out then the freezer won't work well. That is the first thing I would check. If only one of the fans is gone out then replace that fan and rock on. If Both fans and compressor are not working then hunt down the timer. It may be stuck in defrost mode. The timer is nestled up behind the cold control and light bulb inside the nice little console in the fresh food compartment. Look under the console for a hole about the size of a dime. Inside that hole a timer advance. Use a flat blade screwdriver to advance the timer till you hear the compressor and fans come on. If the timer is fine the next thing to look for is ice buildup inside the evaporation compartment. If you see that then the defrost heater and termination thermostat needs to be replaced.
If both fans operate ok but the compressor is not working then I would remove and inspect the compressor relay for wear. The cold control would be the next thing to take a look at. If it is open the compressor and fans will not run but the inside light will work.

My refrigerator freezer does not cool below 70 degrees. I just relace the start relay and now the compressor runs but the condensor fan won't work unless i give it a little spin.

Lubricate the condensor fan with a parifin based oil like Union 76 turbine oil or "Zoom Spout" oiler. These fans are notorious for the bearings drying up on them.

Being careful.... touch the compressor copper lines. One should be very warm almost Hot to the touch.
Also with the unit unplugged..... note that there is a coolant drier with a small capillary tube coming out of one end. Tap the side of this by holding a hammer handle (wood) against it and hit it on the side with a screw driver handle.

Check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment is also running when the compressor is on. Anytime the compressor is running BOTH fans must be running. If you can not get the condensor fan up to full speed you will note that the chassis around the door seal area will be quite warm almost hot to the touch and the unit will not be cooling properly. Just for troubleshooting.... direct a fan at the condensor coils and see if the freezer compartment gets cold and that the chassis around the door seals is just warm.

Note about compressors in general.... if you unplug a unit.. it must settle / stabilize for 15 - 20 minutes so that the compressor can restart. Any power off periods less than 15 mins will result in the compressor cycling via the thermal overload every 4 minutes or so... and it does not run for more than 40 seconds when the overload kicks off the PTC relay power.

If you never feel the copper line off of the side of the compressor get hot then the unit has lost coolant.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
