This is a home owner's jig for mortising **** hinges, It will not do production runs , that's for sure. It has to be layed out to start, but great for cutting one door. Do you have the router guide for it? Your hinge sticks out of the door on the side that it swings on, and it leaves about 1/4 inch of door on the other edge, the top and bottom are measured from the top and bottom of the door and you have to figure the thickness of the guide and make a test run on a scrap. The depth should be flush with the hinge. The standard way of measuring is, 7 from the top, 11 from the bottom and center in between the 2, they don't do that anymore, they just slap them in a pre-hung jig that mortises upside down, backwards, up, down, doesn't matter. all the same now days, only problem is you can't get a punch under the hinge to pop out the hinge pin if you have to. The card you have might have the dimensions on it for holding off the line. Hope this helps.

How to install new door lock

For a residential door, you may choose either 2 3/4" (70 mm) backset or 2 3/8" (60 mm) backset. Some locks are not adjustable.
Choose the backset required for the lock. Check the thickness of the door. Standard installation height is 35-36" above the floor.
Bore a 1" diameter hole into the edge of the door and a 2 1/8" hole through the face. A drilling jig helps align these two holes. If you measure and mark the holes carefully and drill accurately, it can be done without a jig, but for about $20.00 the jig helps avoid lock alignment problems or possibly trashing a door. Follow the instructions for the jig and the lock manufacturers instructions.

I want to rout out for hinges with a freud trimmer will adding a block to the bottom of base plate work? will i be able to see the area i need to rout

You might be better off replacing the plastic base with a piece of 1/4" clear lexan (plexiglas). you'll be able to see through that.
Otherwise, you can make a simple jig that stops the trimmer at both ends (at the length of cut for the hinges) and controls the depth of cut by registering against the edge of the door. Make the jig base itself of 1/4' MDF or some such and longer than you think you'll need it to be so you have a way to clamp it or pin it down to the door.
If that sounds too complicated, try measuring the distance from the edge of the bit to the edge of the trimmer, in both directions, and marking the corresponding length away from the hinge position with a piece of blue masking tape or something, so you'll have an easily visible reference line when routing. You can mark it a little short and clean up the end of the cut with a sharp chisel.
Finally, run a test on a piece of scrap before you try to fit the hinge to your finished work.
