My zune 4GB will not register (boot up, charge) when attached to my computer. My car charger won't activate it either. It seems it has officially died. Does Microsoft sponsor a replacement for it?

Microsoft usually has a 1 year warranty for their hardware- I'd check the Microsoft web site itself to check the answer. However, based on your description, it sounds like the battery has gone bad- you may be able to find how to replace it on Zune enthusiast sites- but I'd suggest checking if your Zune is in warranty first!

I have a 30g Zune which has not been holding a charge for a couple of weeks. This morning the Zune powers up and then shuts off (even while plugged in). I tried the 'hold down the back button and up at the...

Hi,

I am not sure if this is gonna work but, since you've tried all other steps why dont we give this a try too...LOL :-)

To troubleshoot this issue, try one or more of the following methods in the order in which they are listed:
  1. Let your Zune device charge for 30 minutes, then disconnect and reconnect the cable to turn on the player. It can take up to 3 hours to fully charge.
  2. Connect the Zune device to a different USB port on the computer. Use a USB port on the back of the computer. Do not use a USB hub.
  3. Use another supported high power source, such as an Xbox 360 console, a Zune AC Adapter, a Zune Car Charger, or a Zune FM Transmitter/Charger.

Note These devices are sold separately.
  4. If you are connecting your Zune device to a mobile computer, make sure that the mobile computer is plugged in and is not running on battery power. Many mobile computers are configured to conserve power when they are running on battery power to extend battery life. This behavior may affect Zune device charging.
  5. If the Zune device is charging slowly, be aware that, for optimal charging, the Zune device requires at least 500 milliamps (mA) of power. Frequently, USB ports that are located on the front of a computer and on some USB hubs are low-power, 100-mA ports. Typically, the high-power, 500-mA USB ports are on the back of the computer. Additionally, when you suspend the computer or put the computer to sleep, high-power USB ports may be switched to low-power, 100 mA mode.
  6. If the device boots to the home screen but is still not charging correctly, continue with the "Home screen is displayed" steps in the following section.

If the device continues to display the full-screen charging icon, continue with "Full-screen charging icon is displayed."
  7. If the battery in the device still does not charge correctly, visit the following Web site to sign in and register your device: http://service.zune.net (http://service.zune.net)

At this Web site, you can submit a request for service if your device qualifies for service.

My Zune 4gb won't sync with my software and will not charge

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my 30GB Zune. The first normal solution is to make sure that the USB port is providing enough power to the Zune to charge it by trying a different port or computer, but since your other Zune charges it is likely not the problem.

Other possibly solutions are performing a hard reset on the Zune (hold back and up until it resets), or allowing the zone to completely discharge and try again. In my case, none of these solutions worked and I was forced to send my Zune in for a new battery, which Microsoft was willing to replace for free.

I want to put some music on my zune, but it will not register as being plugged in or turn on.

I let it sit overnight and plugged it into my computer, while my computer was plugged in, and it turned on.

I have Zune 30GB mp3 player. When I try to charge it using computer or wall charger, it tries to turn on and makes some clicking sound and turns off again. It does it repeatedly but can not charge it.

the zune does this if the battery doesn't work (needs a charged battery to power on). battery is either defective or disconnected. there is a zune repair guide that shows you how to fix it

Zune froze on boot up this morning. Reset buttons won't work nor will any others. Tried charging battery to no avail.

There's a fix:

Your Zune will need a "hard reset."

To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the Zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug. Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the Zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the right connector and then the left battery connector. Your Zune should start up immediately. Press the backing of the Zune down (make sure headphone jack is aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.

It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it.
