My computer will not provide access to the toshiba external hard drive

1)Check that the drive is receiving enough power to spin up. The USB port might not provide enough power, in which case a powered hub or other external power supply might be the solution.

2)Check the cable. A bad connection anywhere in the chain can block current flow, both for power and for data transfer.

3)If you can open the enclosure without damaging it, check that all internal connections are good.

Windows will not start with a Toshiba external hard drive plugged into USB

Computer starts normally in windows with a windows that is installed on a hard disk on that copmuter. In other words - windows is installed on an internal hard disk of a computer A. If you get it out and put in a computer B it wont work.

To have the things work:
1. First should set in BIOS boot up options first boot device CD/DVD, second OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, third HDD
2. Should boot up from a CD and install windows on an external hard disk (in your case your 3TB Toshiba external HD)
3. Set in BIOS boot up options first boot device OTHER/USB/EXTERNAL, second internal hard disk e.g. HDD0, HDD1

PC IS NOT RECOGNIZING MY TOSHIBA EXT-HARD DISK. MODEL:HDDR250E03X. CAPACITY : 250GB

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
hope this helps

back it up immediately, the software on the HD has detected something failing, and it is telling you it is time to back up that drive, and replace the drive, these reports, are usually 100% right.

MK1637GSX from a laptop, trying to attach it to a desktop for data recovery. Wondering if its possible and if so, what parts I need to do so

Go to a computer retail store and ask for an IDE / SATA to USB adapter, make sure it has fittings on the end for both 2.5" and 3.5" EIDE drives. You plug either the ide end or the sata end to the adapter head and plug the usb cable into the host computer. The host then reads it as an external HDD

External Hard drive doesn't want to work

have you tried a system restore incase some system files have become corrupted other the past couple of weeks.

If not try it first, Click on Start>all programs>accessories>system Tools>system restore and restore your system to a date and time when you know that your drive was being read with no problems. Once you choose the date and time, the computer will restore and reboot. The restore program will then reopen to tell you if the restore was succesful or not.

Once the screen has been displayed click okay and then plug your hard drive back in.

Hopefully this will help if not let me know by posting a comment.
