Please follow the diagnosis outlined in this article to check whether the backlight lamp or the inverter board are the root cause of the problem or not:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r6430776-troubleshooting_laptop_power_failures

If you connect the external monitor & nothing is displayed on it, then this means that both the backlight lamp & the inverter board are fine. The main indicators in these cases are the sound, and the hard drive LED on the laptop case. If the laptop sounds just like it always does for a minute or two after being turned on, it means it's going ahead and booting the operating system, but the video processor or part of the motherboard circuit for video output has failed. If the laptop just sits there and beeps when you turn it on, or if you hear the fan but not the hard drive chuckling with its active LED flashing away, it means the laptop isn't getting as far as trying to boot the operating system. While this could be due to any number of hardware problems, the most common and easiest to
troubleshoot or repair is RAM failure. If your laptop has two RAM modules installed, try booting with just one and then the other in the primary slot. If your laptop only has one RAM module, you might consider buying one online from a site with a good memory selector, like Crucial.com

HP notebook screen

If you've tried a working lcd screen and you still get no display then your video card is bad. The hp dv2000 has the Nvidia Graphics Card (video card) that was a manufacturing defect and was put in many different manufacturer's models other than hp. It was a total nightmare and well documented all over the internet.

Your graphics card will have to be reflowed. You can do it yourself by taking the motherboard out then wrapping it in Aluninum foil leaving the Nvidia graphics chip exposed. Take a hair dryer (blow dryer) and with a sweeping and circular motion for about 1 minute go all over and around the graphics card applying HOT heat. Take a pencil with an erser on it and use the eraser end to push in the middle and all around the edges of the video card to reseat is securely. Repeat this for another time or two then remove the aluminum foil and let the board cool off. Insert it back and most likely your problem will be solved. I've done it many times and I use a really hot Shrink Wrap gun. It works 99% of the time.

Hp pavilion dv2000 lights switch on but boot or

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the folowing

1) Remove ALL wires and then press and hold the power button in for approx 20 seconds

2) Plug everything back in and then rerty

This may sort the issue out however from what you are descrbing, if there is no boot or display it is highly likely the motherboard and/or the CPU is faulty

I would recommend that you book the PC into a reputable PC repair shop if the above does not work

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Monitor doesn't come on

In my experience the inverter may have went bad.
If you take a flash light right to the screen can you see the picture?
If so the inverter need to be replaced.

The inverter is behind the bezel of the screen easy to repalce.

My hp pavilion dv2000 lights up but screen never comes on... what do i need to do?

The problem could be with your screen. It looks like the led light of your screen is dead you could follow up this solution. I have had this same problem with a HP DV2000 and the problem is not the contrast light. What it is, is that the laptop thinks that the screen is been shut down that is why the light does not come on. The best way to solve this is to remove your keyboard first. You can remove the keyboard by removing exactly 7 screws from your laptop back, there are 5 screws located under your battery and other two that are in the location of your RAM'S. Just open them up and then you will notice that the key board pops out abit then just simply take it up and then just below the keyboard, on the same line where HP brand logo is on your machine there are two small clip types of pind, that you can remove and put back. There is a clip that is hidden abit under the metal plate, so just try and remove that clip from its place using a needle or any long and thin object. That will make the laptop not have the problem. But once you remove that the laptop constantly will think that the screen is open even if you close it. then after like a week or two you can put it back and all shall be fine if not then just remove it and keep it out. You can then set your power options to shut down the screen light every 2 minutes or something like that so as to avoid the backlight being switched on all the time. Hope this solves your problem.

Won't come on, tried taking out battery and that

I think the problem is with your LCD screen.

Try connecting it to external monitor and see whether a display will come up on the external monitor. If this the case, update your video driver. If you had updated video driver but still no display I suspected your LCD screen is faulty and needs to be replace.

(if machine is under warrantly, no need to pay any fee for replacement).

HV Pavilion dv2000 won't boot up.

The infamous dv2000. ah, you have either two issues. The first one can be a memory module gone bad, and well the second one is that the onboard video card went out, however, that is very unlikely. Try some new memory and go for it. This should solve your issue.

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
(can some creative netizen bring this to the public light to pressure HP to do the ethical things??)

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

I have the HP pavilioin dv2000 too. I encountered the same problem. I did everything i though possible (reseated the battery, reseated the ram) and everytime i hit the power button, i would get all the blue lights on but no screen. And it is non responsive. Fed up i held the power key down for no less than 2 minutes and ta-da the computer responds by turning off. After i pressed the power button again, it started normally.

Hope it helps. Take care.
