Before you worry about restoring your computer, see if you can clean up the trouble. From another computer, download MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware (the free version) and put it on a flash drive. Install it in your computer and run a full scan. This is a very effective program, updated continuously as new bad software comes along, and is the first thing I try when someone calls me for help.

If MBAM doesn't fix it, you can try another program called ComboFix. You can get it here. (A tutorial and download link is here at BleepingComputer.com, a good site for getting information and help on computer troubles.)

If you need to restore your computer (you said "reboot", but I assume you mean "restore", which puts the original factory software image back on), you'll need the manufacturer's recovery disc or discs. Older computers usually came with a set, but most newer computers no longer have the discs included. Since CD or DVD writers are standard equipment, the manufacturer provides a utility program that lets you make your own recovery discs after you set up the computer. This is a step many people ignore, however. If you don't have a recovery set, you might be able to purchase one from the manufacturer, or you can install a fresh copy of Windows yourself.

Try MBAM first, then ComboFix if necessary. Chances are very good that this will get your computer going again. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

If the internet explorer is offline, how can i return it online? please help me. thank you.

Internet Explorer (IE), like most web browsers, can be placed in "offline" mode. But to access sites on the Internet, the browser must be in "online" mode.

To return IE to "online" mode, click on "Tools" (near the upper right corner of the browser), and the REMOVE the check in the "Work offline" item. See screenshot:

IE and Google Chrome will notconnect to the internet. Firefox will. I previously deleted the antivirfox virus which was causing everything to not connect to the internet. How do I get IE and Chrome to...

It is possible you still have a virus on your computer preventing Internet Explorer and Chrome. I recommend making sure your virus scanner is updated, and doing a complete scan of your hard drive.

In addition, it is possible that a virus on your computer has changed your proxy settings (which could explain why Firefox works while IE and Chrome do not). To verify that there are no proxy settings on Internet Explorer, open the application. Assuming you are using IE8 (other versions should be similar), go to Tools, and Internet Options. You can configure your proxy settings from the Connections tab, and clicking "Settings" for any applicable connections.

If you are using a direct connection to the internet (i.e., Cable or through a router), Never dial a connection should be selected. If this area is grayed out and there are no connections, this is not likely the problem.

Finally, make sure you are not working offline. Click tools once again, and make sure Work Offline does not have a check mark by it. This may be under the File menu on different versions of Internet Explorer.

More than likely the virus has edited settings in your registry, sinply removing the virus will not replace these settings. Try using a restore pointn prior to when you got the virus.

I will see my friends online ,type a message ,

This could be a browser problem as sometimes this happens to me when using Firefox. If you use Firefox, switch to Internet Explorer and see if that works. If Internet Explorer, then try Firefox. Its not a problem with your laptop, just some minor software issues. Worst comes to worst, you can reboot your system using the Dell recovery discs, but shouldnt have to go that far

How do i switch from offline to online?

Are you speaking about the internet working offline and online? If so, you can find that option to edit the LAN settings. Please crrect them according t you LAN address and reopn a new IE session. This should help.

If you are speaking about Outlook, you can find an option in the right bottom for Outlook 2007.

Hope this helps.

Inspiron 6400 wirless connection

HI
If the browser shows working offline and wireless is connected fine then it could be an issue where work offline is checked in the browser.
In internet explorer 6 its found on File in the menu, if work offline is already checked, check it again to remove the check mark and then try, if its internet explorer 7 its found on tools, the same steps and in firefox under file,
Also try this step as well, if its internet explorer go to tools-internet options-and in internet options-go to connections tab-there is dial up and networking box-remove the dial up connections from the box-and check the one never dial a connection

also check the firewalls and antivirus programs, post your results.

thank you
