Question about Frigidaire Dishwashers

1 Answer

Frigidaire 4000 Series dishwasher started having problems this evening. It fills with water, then hums like it is going to cycle, and does nothing. Then it just moves on and the timer continues. At the normal point in the cycle, it drains, and tries again. I have checked for obstructions everywhere and cleaned the filter area. The overfill protector moves freely. I have checked what seems to be the normal easy things so I'm worried we are looking at a pump or motor issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I apologize for the delayed response. I was out of town last week after I submitted the request. At any rate, your advice helped me know where to look and I did indeed find that the motor assembly has hair wrapped around it, not allowing it to move freely. I removed the hair and put it back together and now it runs! It has a slight vibration now that emits a little sound but it doesn't sound like anything serious. Thank you very much!

Seems the fault is centered around the program control module of the washer or the drive.
So it is necessary that you will need at least a multimeter to check the fault to confirm.
As mentioned after the water fills in , the voltage at the motor input must be checked using the voltmeter in AC range. As you had observed a hum, it can be possible that the motor is not starting up due to :
1.Failure of the starter capacitor... if there is one for this model.
2.Jamming of the motor within the motor assembly or the drive mechanism... if so remove and reset after checking for a free movement with the power OFF.

If there is no voltage to the motor the controller can be faulty , hence remove and check the driver section contacts in the timer. Also check the water level sensor to work so that the motor is triggered to work after the level set is reached.

The advice/tip given is with the belief that you are competent. You must attempt to do it yourself only if you are technically/logically able, especially when dealing with delicate devices, damaging while trying to open, Probing electrical/electronic circuits with high voltage or delicate components. Since the advice given by me is with the inputs provided and not based on a visual inspection, there can be further reviews required in some cases.

Please use some oil with a long tip to lubricate the moving parts where the hair was entangled.
Hope this would solve the noise.
Please also rate my comment and tips.
    Thank you

Sounds like you need a professional to diagnose the unit for repairs. You are either having a timer issue or a control board communication error.

Dishwasher fills up then hums likes its going through cycle but nothing gets washed when the cycle ends it drains and the heat comes on.

The simple solution is that something inside the dishwasher is keeping the sprayers from spinning and spraying water. Look closely inside to see if there is a pan or part of the rack sticking up or down and getting in the way of the spray parts.

PROBLEM: Unit will start, fill with water, wait through normal cycle time, then drain. Unit does not perform washing (arms spinning & spraying water, etc.) cycle.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The problem is that the control detects that the motor is not running and so drains water directly after filling it. If you hear a hum sound from the bottom panel then it is the motor that is bad, if you don't hear any sound and still the unit performs same way then first thing to check is the motor, and then check the control as even a bad relay in control can cause this issue. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Hello, it sounds like your dishwasher motor is bad. These frigidaire motors go out quite frequently. To replace it, pull out dishwasher and underneath, just disconnect the mount and screws and it'll pop right out. You can probably get a motor online for 100 bucks. Hope this helps,

This is likely an indication of a problem with the circulation pump motor under the dishwasher like maybe a bad circulation pump motor but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance.

No power to dishwasher

depends on the sequence. many, but not all, dishwashers start with drain to get rid of the slops. if yours starts with fill, then no water supply will prevent progress.(you should be able to hear a low hum which is the valve energised) check also that the door is closing properly and latching. better to use cold water fill not hot
