Question about Epson PowerLite 5550C Multimedia Projector
Our ceiling mounted projector shuts down completely after about 45 minutes of use. No lights are lit - no red light or anything else. No response to restart from the remote or pushing the power button on the projector. After several hours, the red light comes back on steadily and the projector will start up again. Does this sound like an overheating problem? We get no on-screen messages - it just shuts down totally. Is there a filter that needs cleaning somewhere?
Just a long shot, but...
I have an epson 9000i that did the same thing. Turns out that unit has a small fan (I think 60mm) right next to the power supply to keep it cool, in addition to the large fan that exhausts past the lamp. The fan runs non-stop as long as the unit is powered-up for two reasons I can think of - keep the power supply a little cooler, and the lamp a little warmer so there's not such a temp difference when it powers-up. Long story short, that fan had died. I replaced it with an aftermarket 60mm fan and it's been working fine ever since. Hope this helps.
