Question about HP m7170n PC Desktop
1) Did you upgrade your power supply? The x300se was a low power graphics card. The new card needs at least a 400W power supply and that is what I find in the specs. However, the exact power needs depend on the rest of the specs for the computer (use a power supply calculator to get an estimate: www.thermaltake.outervision.com/ ). (Optical drive, hard drive, etc)
2) Did you uninstall the driver for the original card before removing it?
3) Check for updated drivers (newer than on the supplied card). Download and install those.
The original card was a low-profile card. Do you have enough space for this card in the box? (Similar question comes in with the power supply - make sure it fits in the case.) Also make sure that you are not getting overheating issues with the new graphics card. There are slot cooler fans and fans that can be mounted above all of the card slots. The best choice for your needs depends on the case and the temperature causing instability.
If you provide more details on where you are having trouble, I'll try to provide more assistance.
(at least this graphics card doesn't require a pci/e power connection to the PSU, as far as I knowm so that is one less thing to go wrong. Note: PSU are often rated by the max peak power that they can supply; it is the mean (average) power supplied to all devices that matters. Otherwise, a gaming session will pull too much power and shut the system down.)
