My Wheel Horse mower acted like low on gas so I filled it. Turned on the mower blades and off and on when moving and it seemed like a belt slipped. It ran unevenly, quit running and won't start.

Even if you have slipped or broken the blade belt, that would have nothing at all to do with keeping it from starting UNLESS you are trying to start it with the blades still engaged. Check that.

Will run but doesn't move

If it doesn't move at all; I would check the drive belt first, then the belt idler pulleys. Just make sure that no one has put the hydro units in bypass mode so they could move the mower without the engine running without your knowledge..

We have a briggs and stratton mower that has been in storage for 5 years with very few hours on it, it will start but dies shortly after.

needs to have carb cleaned out. most likely the main jet in the carb is plugged. symptoms include only running on choke and dies when choke is turned to run. or if you only have a primer bulb, it will only run for only a few seconds every time it is primed. if you are qualified to work on the carb, dont forget to start with fresh gas and possibly new fuel line and filter. Toro self propelled rear mower recycler.. starts and runs fine..Then stops if you do not keep the propulsion in gear

I would say that something inside the mechanism that engages the self-propelled action has broken. When you release the lever, (most of the way), that keeps the S.P. action moving, it's suppose to flip the action off but keep the motor running. And when you release this same lever all the way, it acts as a kill switch. If your wheels never disengage, then I would look at the mechanism spoke of above.

If you hear this mechanism click when you release this lever, this is good and it's not broken. Then you may have grass and junk clogged up under the cover where the front wheel is. This would also keep it from disengaging.

Good Luck!

Troy Bilt ride-on mower will not move in either fwd or reverse

Is the parking brake on? Or if it's a hydrostatic (automatic) there is a release lever to push the unit around when it isn't running. Most of those releases are on the back of the machine, and you just push it in for drive and pull it out to push.
