Volume on my Tivoli Audio Model One decreases to silent during play. I have to turn it off, then back on to return to previous level. Do I need a part replaced? If so, what?

SOURCE: My Tivoli Model One makes a loud screech/buzz noise

I have the same problem with mine. Contacted TIvoli and they said this is a unique problem. I believe it's a common defect related to the AM/FM switch though. Please contact Tivoli. Maybe if enough folks report the problem, they'll consider doing the repair out of the 1-year warranty. Let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: Tivoli Model one radio - volume control does not

I noticed the same problem after I had moved. Hadn't had it before. The solution was easy in my case. (It took some time to accidentally figure it out though). I flipped the power cable around 180 degrees / upside down and re-connected. After this the volume worked as before. This was the model with European power plug.

SOURCE: My Tivoli Model One makes a loud screech/buzz noise

I had the same problem and was able to repair it quite easily. Only thing needed is some basic soldering skills.

Problem description:

  • Suddenly a quite loud and disturbing (scratch/screech/buzz) noise appears.
  • Sometimes the noise is gone but it reappears sooner or later.
  • Changing volume or radio band / input (am, fm, aux) does not affect the noise (even on volume turned down all the way).
  • The signal coming out of the Headphones / Rec Out plug is not affected.

Cause:

  • Cold solder joints

Solution:

  • Unplug from mains
  • Remove back panel (the two black screws next to the plugs in the center). The back panel sticks quite firmly, so it might help to remove the front panel first (the 4 screws in the corners) and carefully press out the back panel from the inside. (The other two (silver) screws are used to attach the transformer to the back panel) and need not to be loosened.)
  • On the circuit board at the back panel locate the plug that goes to the speaker (is says "J2"). Check the solder joints. In my case, looking closely, I could see that they're not good anymore.
  • Renew the joints by heating them up and applying some fresh soldering tin. I also renewd the joint from the wire bridge next to the plug. Just check the other solder joints on the board.

In my case afterwards the problem was gone and the device is working properly again.

Hello, I purchased a Tivoli Model One few months ago and I noticed that after tuning a radio station (strong signal, amber light on), the signal will fade out in ten minutes or so and I need to tune it...

hi,

it looks like its got a hookup for an external antenna on the back, hook a wire to it or better yet hook it up to a pair of rabbit ears, look at the back and make sure your hooking it up to the right connector am/fm

Tivoli model Satellite will not turn on. Had intermittant power issues. Moved the radio and it will no longer power on

The power control problem is easy to fix.

It can as simple as a fuse (I'm sure you check it already) or a switch that is piggy back on the volume control.

Radio Shack has a similar one HERE

Disconnect the AC outlet and open the main Tivoli unit.

Look at the back side of the volume switch and you will see a power switch piggy back onto the volume control.

You can bypass it or get the correct value Potentiometer + SPST switch.

Use an ohm meter to meter the both end of the potentiometer and if it's 10,000 ohm or 10k then just go to Radio Shack and ask for
10K-Ohm Audio Control Potentiometer with SPST Switch Model: 271-215 | Catalog #: 271-215

It's a direct replacement.

If the ohm read is other then 10K then you will need to order it for an electronic supply house.

Get a lot of static when try and turn volume down low.....in fact, sometimes it is hard to get sound when you turn the volume down....it is either full blast or silent.....lots of static like noise when...

This is an easy fix with a can of volume knob cleaner i think its called. You should be able to get it at radio shack. You just spray it into the volume knob and let it dry. The instructions are on the can.

Philips 27PS55S/121 sound level decreases

Yes, the dynamic range on DVD's is enough to cause the high and low passages to be somewhat annoying but, sounds more like a movie theater. This kind of dynamic range showed up first on Beta HiFi and VHS HiFi VCR's because of thier range as well. If there is a feature in your audio menus on your TV such as "audio expansion, SRS, Wide mode, etc." turn it off and let the audio be processed without expansion of any kind as that will amplify your dynamic range alot more. The lock up issue could be something Philips is aware about and if under warranty contact them. Otherwise not much you can do except manke sure the voltage going to the TV is failry stable between 110 volts and 120 volts. Sometimes dramatic drops and or increases can cause lock up or confusion to the microprocessor in the TV.
