Question about Dell XPS 600 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Hi. I have a Dell XPS 600 system. My problem is that, when I turn on the computer, it goes to the Dell logo screen, and then it tells me, "boot safe mode," "boot with command prompt," "boot with last known configurations settings," and "boot normally." And then it restarts itself again, doing the same thing over. I made sure the hard drive is connected. I went to the screen that says to install or repair windows. Press R to repair, press enter to install windows, or F3 to exit. It says that it does not find a hard drive. What should I do?

Probably have to replace the hard drive as the first boot instruction ( boot from hard drive) is not executable , so the bios is looking for alternative sources to boot from as per the priorities set in the boot sequence
of the hard drive is dead - replace it with an sshd unit rather than a disc hd because in the sshd there are no moving parts to cause the problem and they are quicker to boot up

SOURCE: Windows XP operating system does not load.

You need to repair your windows xp installation.
Insert the xp install cd and power off - then power on your pc.
If the screen says "press any key to boot from cd" then do that.
It takes a while until you get to choose options.
Choose the repair previous installation option by pressing the R key when prompted.
Follow the instructions on the screen and you should be fine.

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

Dell xps 2710 will not boot?

Try these:
>Boot into Safe Mode; if the computer will boot into Windows, something in the operating system is corrupted and preventing it. Do a system restore from safe mode to a save point before this started happening.
>If Safe Mode does not work, do a system restore while booting.
>Hopefully you have made image backups; if so, do a restore. You may lose some data, but that is the only alternative. If you have not been making backups you are up a creek without a paddle.
If none of the above work, I hang out at www.suggest-a-fix.com
which is a free computer help forum. Post in the Windows 8 section and I will be along. This forum is not set up for complicated problems that require repeated, in-depth communication.

Starts up until welcome screen, then goes black

Hi there,

Try Last Known Good Configuration. From shutdown turn the computer on and as soon as you see the DELL logo start tapping F8. Advance Boot Options will appear and then use the up or down arrow keys to go to Last Known Good Configuration and press Enter.

If that does not work:

Try booting to safe mode. After powering the computer up when you see the DELL logo start tapping F8 from your keyboard and then choose "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" if you're able to boot up successfully go to Start-> All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools and then System Restore.
Restore your computer to a date when it was working.

Hope you found this helpful!

The dell logo flashes then the screen goes blank. The hard drive keep flashing like the laptop is booting up okay it is a xps m140 and has vista home as a o/s

After the logo flashes, press F8, repeatedly, until a white-over-black "boot menu" is displayed. Choose "Safe Mode", to see if this "minimal" version of Windows will startup successfully.

Black Screen Dell 600 Laptop

Hi,
The display drivers maybe corrupt.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Dell support website.

If it still won't display in normal mode please post back.

Good luck.

Try starting the computer in safe mode

Press F5 every few seconds when you startup the computer.

That should take you into windows. Once you're in, just restart the computer and you should be able to get back in.
