Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

In one of my usb prorts the black thing in the middle of it is broke off. When I insert a mouse or any other usb device in the other port area it cannot find new hardware. I really would appreciate an explanation and would want to know if there is a solution to my problem. I really need to use one port or the other.

It sounds like all the ports are using the same connection from your motherboard, and is causing a short circuit stopping other ports working correctly. I'm afriad you may need to take the computer to a competant repair engineer, as the motherboard may need replacing. This is only a educated guess of course, with out seeing the fault in action I cannot be 100% certain.

My laptop cannot detect the mouse. It states that there is an undetectable device. I have followed all directions and I still can't get the mouse to connect to my laptop

I think this will help.
A USB Connector has 4 terminals. The two terminals at the ends are to supply 5 Volts. The middle two are for data transfer.
viscamtech_13.jpg

If the terminals at the end are OK the device will get power (5V). Then the computer can detect something was attached. But if one of the middle terminals are damaged, your computer cannot recognize the device.
The problem might be with the USB port of the printer. Connect it to a different port. Does it (mouse) work on your desktop machine? Then the problem is not with the mouse.
If the mouse fails on all USB ports, the problem is with the mouse. Check the USB jack of the mouse. Sometimes the damage is visible. Or else one of the 4 wires of the mouse cable is disconnected (damaged) due to bending of the wire. In this case, buy a new mouse or replace the mouse cable.

I cannot get a SanDisk flashdrive to go into either of the USB ports on my new desktop computer. I am using the USB ports located on top of the computer

To test the functionality of the usb ports in front of the computer
1. Insert another flash drive or another usb device like a usb mouse on front the computer 2. If it detect the usb device that means 2 things flash drive might be bad and the front usb port is working 3. If it does not, It means that the flash drive might be bad or the usb port is not connected to the front panel of the computer 4. Try also inserting the flash drive at the back of the computer see if the usb drive is detected in all ports 5. Check the BIOS for any usb port associativity

First thing you need to do is to know that the USB ports of your laptop is really working. Insert another usb devices or storage such a flash disk. If the flash disk being inserted is not recognized by the system then the usb port you had inserted is malfunctioning or it is defective. But if the other usb devices like the flash disk is working then your new bought mouse is defective. Try to plug the usb mouse to the other ports available in your laptop.

Ps2 port doesn't recognize Microsoft Optical mouse

You might think about a USB hub for all your USB devices. ps2 port is more or less dedicated for mouse, which is why your mouse pointer is stuck in the middle of the screen. Go ahead and get an externally powered USB Hub to power other USB devices. To answer, ps2 for mouse needs just a mouse, not USB device.
