Sounds like a conergence circuit failure, probably a couple of AMPs and a few discreet components. Probably 250-300 repair

SOURCE: How to change CRT in Sony KP-57WS500

CRT is expensive!!! Try to shuffle the electronic parts driving the CRT tubes first, it has three sets of parts, all are the same in each color: red, green, blue. Sometimes cleaning the leads or metal parts of the circuits, specially the green region, will gonna solve the problem. Do it first, it wont gonna cost you a dime, just time. [:0)

SOURCE: Replacing the blue crt - Help!

I know this isn't going to be what you want to hear (and I see the rating left for Jamie), but the tubes are extremely similar. The replacement of the tube is not easy in projection TV's.
You have special cooloing liquid that sits between the tube and the projection lens that sits on top. This is expensive stuff to buy, and not very easy to work with when refilling.
The tube is going to cost a packet due to the fact its the blue tube. Even in CRT projectors, the blue tube always goes way before the red or green. The manufactures know this, and will charge accordingly.
If you decide to do this then you have all that plus once it's all installed, you then have to have the correct service remote to do the calibration correctly.
I don't want to say it, and I know you don't want to hear it, but these TV's after they go in the current priced electronics market are not considered ecconomical to repair unless you dearly love the set.
The other bad news is now the blue has gone, the red and green will probably go in the next 12-18 months anyway.

I am not trying to talk you out of the repair, just trying to let you know what you are in for.

SOURCE: KP-57WS500 turning green or red and then off

Green and Red guns seems defective and requires replacement.
Both guns (CRTs) are no longer available so TV has no worth to repair.

Re-insering the flyback wire is usually very easy. Push in and give a slght turn and check to see if grabbed. It sounds as if there is more issues than flyback wire. TV should turn on without one crt connected

The screen on my Sony wide projection tv is turning blue after a few minutes. can you help? the model # is KP-57WS500

This is a typical bad CRT. The blue CRT part number is 8-733-647-25 but they are no longer available. It is not uncommon for this eventually to happen to the other CRT's as well. The only fix is to have a technician pull the defective CRT and have it sent to a company called VDC for rebuilding.

Do either the red or the green crts come up at all?? If not the heaters in the blue crt could be bad - loading down the HV and the shutdown circuit turns the set off.. Only repair for that is to replace the blue crt, but I would have it tested first.. In the shop here we use a B&K467 to test for shorts and emission leaks but that's old school.. B&K has since come out with far superior crt tester/rejuvenators..
