Sounds like the burner is blocked not lighting right across !! I would try blowing the burner out or call back the person who cleaned it , air mix could be wrong as well

Cozy gas wall heater won't ignite, pilot light is on

There are two types of igniters, spark-type or glow heater. The glow heaters wear out and crack or break and the spark-type spark gap gets fouled or dirty. Both could have electronics problems that drive the glow heater or spark systems. The Filtrete thermostat is not the issue. While rapping the unit makes the glow igniter come back together to glow again.

Gas is on can hear ignition. Doesn't light. May not have gas to heater. Air in line?

Check also to see if the valve on the gas valve itself is in the "ON" position. Is it on or off?
If it is on, then you may in fact have air in the gas line that needs to be purged.
Have a large piece of cardboard or the front cover/door of your heater will suffice.
If solid pipe to heater, then there is a union, if you have flexible gas line to heater then you have a flare nut.
With NO flames or sparks even close - NO SMOKING !!!Carefully & slowly loosen either the union or the flare nut with gas valve open. You will hear hissing sound. Leave open for about 30 seconds, until you smell the gas. Carefully & slowly tighten either the union or the flare. Take the cardboard or door, and fan towards the heater to push away and fan away any gas fumes. Do this for about a minute or so. Very Important you do this, again especially if Propane. Propane is a very heavy gas & it will linger in a "Puddle", unseen puddle near the heater. If you did not fan away these fumes, when the heater starts to ignite - .... not so pretty.
Anyway, if you had air in line, heater should fire. If it didn't try above steps one more time. If it still does not fire, possible bad gas valve.

Coleman 5085a751 heater wont light, igniter works but i only hear a slight hiss for maybe half a second when you hold down the auto valve. any suggestions?

The first thing I would do is to check to make sure that the line to pilot doesn't have any small bits or rust or dirt that are plugging up the orifice to the pilot light. If you can hear gas for a short time that is where I would start and then check tank regulator for correct pressure and blow out all lines plus check inlet to gas valve. There should be a fine mesh screen at the inlet that may need cleaned.Hope this helps you. Thanks.

I just turned the heater on for the first time, so excuse me for my ignorance, but when I turn the heater off, should the flame turn off as well? I'm a little worried because I never noticed the flame or...

you are talking about the pilot light that on this heater is all ways on to light the burner when you turn the thermosat up , its safe to leave on there is safety device on the heater if the pilot goes out to shut off the gas , also when you come home you just turn up the stat if you are cold , if you turn this off you will have to relight it every time , there will be air in the line and be a pain to light up,

plus your house will be very cold when you came home after a days work or a night out

try cleaning the thermocouple or even replacing it because if the thermocoulple doens't sense the pilot light then it won't open the gas valve.

The yhernocoupler would snuff the pilot if bad. What ignites the overhead burners? and what regulates the overhead gas supply? Look into this. Too much gas will not light as easily as proper balance gas and air. Even more so in a tower type heater.. Turn the gas on low and the pilot should grab it. Good luck

Desa TD 104 Patio Gas heater

Sounds like you may not be getting enough gas up to the main burner. Bugs, such as spiders, love to make homes out of the main supply lines. Does your pilot light burn blue, and strong? If not, it may need to be cleared of the obstruction. Also, when opening the the gas tank valve, are you opening it slowly?
