Question about HP DeskJet 940c InkJet Printer

I just hooked up my hp printer to my Gateway computer. It will not print In the print box it says there is an error. I've used these two machines together before and never had a problem. Please help.

Please reboot your computer and the 940 too. Check the cable and connectors, are they tight? Make sure the screws are tight on the cable connectors and inspect the pins as it sounds like you use this printer on several computers?

You should reinstall the print drivers and if you have lost the CD you will find the software at the HP site on the left side of the page:http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF13a/18972-18972-236251-14438-236261-35985.html

If the cable is good and the software leaves you with the same problem then I must tell you that this printer is too old to repair. This printer was produced in 2000 and I am not sure about when they stopped making them. It was a great printer but it may be past its prime. You may have a failure in the 940. A new single function HP Printer can be purchased for half the price of trying to find someone to fix this printer. The new HP Printers are much more thrifty when it comes to ink than the 940 and they give much better color results too.

Are you using the software that shipped with the machine? I use the" HP Scan To" program which allows me to scan it to a slew of file types.

The only downer: I can't put the software on more than 1 computer. Apparently, it recognizes that the printer is hooked up to another machine and won't let me install any drivers on other computers (except the print driver).

To use two computers with hp psc 2110v printer


It would depend on whether the computers are in the same room or not, If they are in the same room then all you have to do is use a USB Switch. hook the printer to it then connect both computers to the switch, just change the computer thats used on the switch as and when needed. If you are wanting to use 2 computers over a network then its an entirely different solution.

Step One:
First make sure your machine is set up for File and Print Sharing. Secondly, check to see if the printer you wish to use is set up for sharing also. If not, follow these directions.
1. Right click the printer to be shared.
2. Select Sharing on the menu
3. Name the Printer to be shared.
4. Click OK. A hand should appear under your printer.
Step Two:
Open your Printer Folder. Start/Settings/Printers.
Select Add Printer.

Step Three:
An Add Printer Wizard dialog box will appear, click on Next at the bottom.

Step Four:
• The dialog box will ask how the printer is attached to your computer.
• Select Network printer by clicking in the radio button.
• Click on Next at the bottom of the box.

Step Five:
The box will ask you for the path to the printer. Select browse. Your network neighborhood will open.

Find the name of the computer to which the printer is hooked up. Click on the name of the computer. Then click on the the printer name to highlight it . Click OK and Next

Step Six:
You can name the printer on this dialog box. Usually, the printer brand and room number is sufficient. The box will ask you if you want to print from a DOS program. The default is No. Click on Next at the bottom of the box.

Step Seven:
If you have already installed the printer before, it will ask if you want to keep the same drivers. If your machine is having problems printing from this printer, which is why you are reinstalling, then select Replace existing driver. Otherwise, you can select Keep existing driver.

Step Eight:
The dialog box asks if you wish to print a test page. Select Yes, and Finish.

Step Nine:
Another box will come up and ask if the page successfully printed. If so, select yes.
You will see your new printer in your Printer Folder with a line underneath it indicating that this is a network printer.

Recognizes printer, won't print


What i'm getting at is if the printer was not used for a long time the cartridges may have dried out.

go to printer and faxes and then right click on the printer icon and select use printer online.
check usb cable if it is properly plugged in.
download hp printing diagnostic utility at www.hp.com/support make sure you type it in the website search box

C3140 PRINTER NOT PRINTING - HELP


How long ago did you purchase the printer? Does it have the "Certified for Windows Vista" logo on the box? If not, it won't work with Vista at all. I checked Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List and it says the HP Photosmart C3100 series is *certified* with Vista, however it does not say it *works* with Vista. http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductDetails.aspx?m=v&g=d&cid=900&sv=&f=86p&pn=HP%20Photosmart%20C3100%20series&oid=31 Per the link, the driver may be part of the Windows Update. Give that a try, as well as HP's website. Otherwise you may need to take it back and exchange it for a Vista-certified printer. Let me know how it works out!
