If the shaft seal has been leaking the impeller stem may have split due to corrosion. This makes it very hard to un thread the impeller. After removing the face plate, try sliding a screwdriver into the front of the motor thru the vents. You should be able to seize the armature from turning by doing this. Then use a large channel lock wrench and try and un screw the impeller CCW. If this doesn't work you have to break the impeller off. See my previous post.

How do you remove the impeller on a mission magnum centrifugal pump?

Open up the pump housing, by separating it into 2. Reveal the impeller. If there is a center screw in the middle of the opening of the impeller, it will normally be backwards threads. Remove that.
know if the impeller should unscrew off of the motors shaft, that will be normal threads. But, to do that, you will have to lock the shaft from spinning. Remove opposite side Cap on the motor, to reveal the shaft. Either use a wrench or flat blade screwdriver to lock the shaft. Now unthread the impeller from the motors shaft.

Pentair 011523 pump shaft seal is leaking. How do you remove the impeller and motor?

Separate the plumbing portion of the pump from the seal plate which is attached to the motor. The bolts will be a 9/16 inch hex head, that are visible facing the motor. Remove those bolts. That will then allow you to pull the motor and the seal plate away from the plumbing portion of the pump. Remove the diffuser which is covering the impeller, and then the impeller will need to be unthreaded off of the motors shaft. The motors shaft, will need to be locked. You can do this by removing the Cap on the backside of the motor and you can use whatever tool required to keep the shaft from spinning. Once you are able to lock the shaft, you can read the impeller... Note* some styles will have a screw in the middle of the impeller securing it to the motors shaft? This screw is Backwards thread, not normal thread. If your pump has this screw, need to remove it first, then you will be able to unthread the impeller off of the motors shaft.
once the impeller is removed, you can then remove the two halves of the shaft seal. Very carefully reinsert the new shaft seal into the proper places, just the way they were prior to you removing them.

Reassemble in backwards order as you disassembled everything.
good luck

How do I remove impellor from a/o smith 7-181327-03 pool pump

If the impeller is fused onto the shaft by rust or mineral build up the chance you will be able to remove it with out destroying it are slim. You're likely going to need a new impeller and shaft seal kit, so I'd suggest getting them before your try to remove the old impeller.
First you must remove the water/plumbing and the strainer basket assembly or pump faceplate if applicable to gain access to the impeller.
Step two, on the backside of the motor (opposite side of impeller) you will find the back end of the motor shaft. This end of the motor shaft has a slot in it so that you can insert a large flat screw driver. This will help you to hold the shaft while you try and unscrew the impeller. fyi your pump might have a plastic housing on the back of the motor which you should remove to get to the back of the shaft. This is best way to remove the impeller but its likely to be a struggle if there is rust on the shaft. Good Luck

Hi, I have a QC 1072 A.O. Smith pool pump motor. How to get the impeller off? Which direction does the impeller spin off? Where to but impeller and seal? Thank you very much Greg

The impeller is just screwed on the shaft. COUNTERCLOCKWISE to remove. Some have a screw in the center attaching it to shaft. This is removed by by turning CLOCKWISE.(reverse threads) Remove back cover and secure shaft with a wrench. There are flats on the shaft to hold it. You might need a large pipe wrench to loosen impeller. Wrap with rag so you don't damage impeller.

How do you remove the motor from a Flotec FPS5172, 1-1/2 HP.

The impeller screws on the motor shaft. First replace the through bolts in the motor. These are the long bolts, they will just cause headachs. On the back of the motor their will be a place to hold the shaft from turning, If you hold the shaft the impeller just unscrews. If you look in the center of the impeller it may have a set screw holding it to the shaft. If you have one of these it will be a left hand screw. Then you will need to break the impeller free as the brass that holds the impeller on will stick to the stainless steel of the shaft. Don't let how tight this is fool you when you put this back together it just goes on hand tight. Good luck

Pump disassembly

I removed the impeller on my DW761UQB. The instructions were molded into the plastic pump housing. This is how I DID MINE: Remove motor mount screws. Remove the chopper screw (screw only goes into impeller, not motor shaft). Remove chopper and rotate/remove strainer. Place socket or wrench on impeller tip and place another wrench on rear of motor's plastic fan. Unscrew fan from impeller shaft ( threads are LEFT handed, turn CW). Once fan is 'backed off' of the impeller, CAREFULLY pry the motor/fan from pump housing (impeller is attached to motor shaft via splines). Don't crack the delicate plastic pump housing. Mine was stuck, but separated with moderate force. Now remove the impeller/seals from the pump housing. This worked for MY above mentioned model, I don't know what other models it applies to. I am not a pro.
