Question about Canon Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I have a four year old Canon S1-IS that worked fine as recently as two weeks ago. I tried to take a photo with it last Friday and all I can see in wither the viewfinder or the display is a very garbled screen with horizontal stripes, that seem to change colors. The display mode DOES display images from the Compact Flash card in good shape. Any suggestions? Bruce Vincent brucev8814@sbcglobal.net 281-379-4596

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

It sounds like a bent pin in the CF slot. This is not a do it yourself fix. Take it to a repair shop.

No this definitely sounds like symptoms of a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

And even if it's determined not to be a CCD sensor problem, just tell them to send it back unrepaired. The A85 is a nice camera, but my goodness you can almost get a good new camera these days for $80.

A95 LCD screen black and unable to take photos

There are quite a few of us with symilar problem, but the screen is not completely black: it has some purple or pinkish color when facing light. Old pics and menu can still be viewed. I noticed 4 symilar threads on Canon A95 within the last 5 mins without any search, just looking at the top questions.

Losing power rapidly...

The only thing I can suggest is that the metal connections on your camera have corroded due to the long life of your camera. I had a similar problem where any batteries I used would not work, regardless of what kind of battery it was. Turns out I had a nice greenish layer of corrosion on my connections which I sand-papered off. This might be a little tricky if your connectors are way inside of a battery holder, but it can be done nonetheless. Try taping some sandpaper to the flat end of a pencil and clean it out that way. Hope it works.

Horizontal Lines after-photo.

Hi, I don't know if this is going to be your problem, but recently the Canon anounced a recall for Canon S1 IS, due CCD problems. Most people with this problem complains of lines on the image, or the image going completely black. Some are having their CCD changed, but most of the users are having their S1 replaced for a brand new S3. Contact the Canon Technical Support, and maybe you get a S3 for free...

Canon Powershot S1 IS - Both in LCD and View finder - only blank is coming

Sorry this aint a solution. I too have the same problem as Mr.Gandhi is facing. I too bought this camera approximately 2 years ago.Since last cupla weeks, im facing this problem on a random note...I cud take a few snaps in between and upload without any problem but again the camera could not capture new images even with a set of 4 new batteries. Whenever i switch the mode to take snaps from preview mode (which is still working fine), the LCD or the view finder becomes dark with some blue colored horizontal lines appearing as if its because of some kinda interference!
