Last weekend I purchased 2 HP exact laptops from Best Buy with AMD processors. One of them is getting the "Internet Explorer has stopped working" message each time i close IE. I have seen several post on the web about this problem, but none seem to be much help. The other machine is working fine and both have the same apps?? Any ideas?

No you do not need to upgrade the cpu after upgrading the memory. The best processor is likely the one in it, however it may support other processors in the same family (ie, if it supports the i7 processor it may support any i7 processor, 1ghz or 2ghz, or if it's an amd turion 64 x2 tl-56 it should support the tl-58 and others. Be sure to purchase a new cpu from somewhere that does offer returns if it doesn't work.)
In Australia there is a Consumer Affairs department where we can lodge complaints against manufacturers to resolve issues and or get refunds on defective products.
I can only suggest that if you have such options in your country to take advantage of such services.
Sorry I can't be of further help.
I read this and don't believe you - yes the AMD dual core gets hot - yes AMD processor are HOT processors - is intel better - no there on par with AMD - the thu put rate is so close it doesn't matter - now vista basic is just that BASIC - if you want to bump it up - home premium 32 or 64 but ultimate 64 should get it going.
There are 2 ways by which you stop this from happening
1. Right click on My computer >> Goto Properties >> click Advanced >> Under Performance click on settings >> click the advanced TAB on the top >> Under virtual memory click on Change >> Select " System managed size and then click on Set >> Click OK >> Click apply and OK >> Reboot PC
2. Once PC is rebooted
Goto Ctrl panel >> Open Internet Options >> Click on Advanced TAB on the top >> Under Browsing category Look for " Enable third party browser extensions (Requires Restart)
MAKE SURE that this option should be unchecked ( Not ticked )
Click Apply and OK
Close Ctrl Panel
NOW it should work fine
