Cokin has (at least) two sizes of filters, the A system and the P system. These are large square filters that fit in a holder.

The A31 is apparently the A system version of the orange filter more usually identified as an 85c.

The filter goes into the slot in the holder closest to the lens. You can then use the toothed edge to rotate the filter, just as you used to turn your old polarizing filter. It can be a little stiff, but it will turn.

How toput a filter and hood

Assuming the filter is of the right size, it screws into the thread mounting on the inside of the front rim of the lens.

Depending on the particular hood, it either fits into the bayonet mount on the outside of the front rim of the lens or simply slips on.

If you're using a step-up ring to mount larger filters or using a Cokin-type filter, then you'll need a new hood to accommodate.

I have a Nikon D80 (18-135mm). Just bought a couple of Quantaray filters. When I use the circular polarizer filter 67mm) in combination with the skylight 1A (67mm), I'm getting a dark shadow in the upper...

Okay, I think you're seeing the shadow of filter stack. If you put a lot of filters on the lens, you're in effect shrinking the field of view. Do enough of this and you'll lose the corners. Imagine holding a roll of toilet paper in front of the lens so you're seeing just a little round picture through the core. This won't matter at the longer focal lengths because you're only using the center of the image anyway, but it will become more pronounced as the focal length decreases.

The easy solution for now is to remove the skylight when using the polarizer. If you absolutely need to use two or more filters, then consider using larger filters with a step-up ring. You might also want to consider somthing like Cokin filters ( ).

Can I obtain filters for Nikon P90 and P5100 cameras

Hi Ken
Interesting question as im interested in this camera.
Ive had a look around and it seems you have no front lens thread on this camera so making it difficult to fix an off the shelf filter.

However this can be adapted, some help here

There is another option, this is by using Cokin shoe holder

Some info that may help you along a bit...good luck
Hope this helps.

All my filters are scrached and I can not fix them even with alcohol or solvent

Then you either need to live with them or replace them.

Most secondhand camera stores which accept film camera trade-ins get loads of perfectly good filters every month along with the cameras and lenses. My shop throws most of them away as they're virtually worthless these days so don't bother with fixing yours, just have a rummage in the camera shop bargain bin.

In future, keep your filters in their plastic cases when not in use.

Does my Nikon D200 have built-in filters? or do I need to buy the Cokin filter system?

Your camera doesn't have any filters built in, but you can simulate a lot of the filter effects in post-processing. You would be advised to have polarizing filters for your lenses, and possible neutral density graduated fiters (which do work in the Cokin System). Those are difficult to do without.

Do all filters need an adaptor?

you can get screw-in filters, but those that require adaptors or holders are more versatile, as you can use them on a variety of different sized lenses.

S7000 Filters

i think most any filter is compatible. Definately you will want a polarizer and possibly a UV for general lens protection. A Gray Grad would be nice I hear. Just make sure to take into consideration any accessory lenses you might be going to purchase before commiting to a specific thread size as you can get step down rings to adapt down but not as good to go up. And you will need an adapter to use screw mount filters. Or look into a Lee filter kit or Cokin kit that would be more adaptable to different lens. usually the guys at a local Jessops can give you some good advice. Have fun
