The modem wants to plug into the wan or internet port on the router, this port is usually different in color and location from other wired ports.

You will want to program the router settings, either use the wizard, or change: Wireless security wit WEP at least, and give a password, like you home or cell phone number (which you can remember when a guest comes and needs access), change system ID to something you would remember, change router access password AND LOG IT,
and check that the router broadcasts it's presence (usually set to yes), and finally change the channel to 11 and get less landline wirelss phone interference.

To do this programming, by the way, you usually need to plug into the modem with a network cable and direct your browser to it, something similar to 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, but get the manual and follow their directions.

The router comes with power plug -- plug that in, but not yet

-- first you need 2 ethernet cables RG45, plug one end into router(into port marked cable or main, the other end into ( i assume you have hi speed modem) into modem
-- plug one of the other ends of the second ethernet cable into one of the 4 ports of the router and the other end into the computer RG45 port (make sure its in the correct port, if you have a modem in your computer be carefull, as these to connections are different in size, although they look alike) -- if you have one, the modem in your computer is a fax modem used to connect to a telephone jack with regular telephone cable, so dont confuse the two connections

-- now plug the router into AC outlet
-- once you have accomplished all this , make sure your equipment is turned on

are you with a telephone hi speed or cable hi speed ISP company ?

if this helped you,. plese send me a positive feedback repsonse !

Hi Ray,

I hope this helps.

I would figure that you would start with the modem feeding the N300, then connecting the XBOX by cable to the netgear, and then using the laptop wirelessly through the netgear...The modem should feed the Netgear so the Netgear can split the signal...

Can't connect tot wireless service because of windows firewall

to connect wireless service to your netgear, we need to connect your laptop directly to the router hardwired. and by ensuring that we are connected try to open a browser and type this inside the address bar. 192.168.1.1. default username is "admin" default password " password " you would be taken to the netgear page. then on the leftside of the screen click on to wireless settings. there you can configure your wireless settings. and click on to apply settings. then try to connect again.

Take the ethernet cable which is going from your Warner cable modem to your computer, and run it from your cable modem to the input connection of your router. Then take a second ethernet cable and run it from the router (ports 1, 2,3 or 4) to your computer. Log into your router's setup page (see your instruction manual), and set up all the passwords and wireless settings. Please read the instructions for specifics of your particular router.
