Camera and computer

Thank you, MrArcadian, for your answer.
My camera is not a webcam but a digital one. I am not sure what you mean by usb registry but I re-registered my Kodak EasyShare camera and on both desk top and laptop, when I connect {in any port}, the prompt is the same:"can not read device"
Once again, thank you very much!

Can i use my canon digital ixus 75 camera as a web cam?

Many people ask if they can use their digital camera as a webcam. In the early days of digital imaging, it made sense to dual-function a camera because a webcam was a serious investment. However, webcams are now so inexpensive that manufacturers are not considering this functionality important in their digital cameras. In fact even the word 'webcam' creates the impression of bad imaging, so associating this function with a camera actually makes the camera seem 'cheap'.

Your camera is actually quite a new, and a nice camera. It doesn't make a lot of sense for Canon to make it work as a webcam, because it's a waste. And in any case, you'd expect a webcam to be powered by a wall outlet or the USB... but most modern cameras like yours don't come with adapter-power, they have battery chargers instead. And they take too much current to use the USB power. By the time they'd added the extras to make it work properly as a webcam, you could BUY a USB webcam separately.

Anyway, back to your question... so, can your camera be used as a webcam? Probably not, but here's how you can tell. Make sure you've installed all the software you can find for your camera, power it up, and plug it in. Windows will tell you if it has a webcam function. If it's a webcam, then it will appear in "My Computer" as a device, right along with all the disk drives. To be sure, go to your control panel and select "Scanners and Cameras". Is your camera listed? If not... it's not a webcam.

In the unlikely event that you have a 'video in' on your computer, and that your camera has a 'video out' then you can follow the instructions on the sony site ("how to use a digital still camera as a webcam"); but most people will not have that yellow 'video in' connection.

Sorry this wasn't the news you really wanted.

What is meaning of "

The USB mode controls what the camera looks like (behaves as) when you connect it to your computer. "Mass Storage" means that it will look like a flash drive, and it will appear as a disk drive in your Explorer on your computer. Hint: this is probably the mode that you want if you're going to copy your photos off from the camera.

To help understand this, if your camera could be used as a webcam (it probably can't) then it might have a 'webcam mode' where connecting it to the computer made it appear in "scanners and cameras" on your computer instead of in your Windows Explorer. In that case you wouldn't be able to copy photos off the camera because you wouldn't be able to browse to the folder that contained them.

I cant instal web camera in messenger

hi,

First, make sure you follow the instructions from your camera manufacturer to ensure the proper installation of your camera.
This involves inserting the camera installation CD, being guided through a few steps for installation, and restarting your computer. Plugging in the camera's USB cord at the incorrect time during the camera software installation procedure can cause various problems.
To reinstall your webcam:
Uninstall any existing camera installations. Click "Start," "Settings," "Control Panel," and "Add/Remove Programs." From the list, choose your webcam software and click Remove.
Unplug the camera's USB cord from the computer.
Reboot your computer.
Insert your camera's setup/installation CD.
Follow the instructions described by the camera setup program, and plug in your camera only when prompted. This is usually done after restarting your computer.

No Web Cam

I e-mailed the company and they gave me an answer. It works because the manual that comes with the camera doesn't tell you how to put the camera in Web Mode. This is a strait copy and paste of their answer:

Please note that you will have to set the camera to PC Camera mode before using the webcam function.

1. Press POWER/MENU.

2. Press FLASH/SET or showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=2&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0

3. Press POWER/MENU to select the icon showletter?box=inbox&msgid=3629_1629343_4317_1647_12263_0_114552_28869_2428414296&bodypart=3&yy=51794&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b&idx=0 shown on the LCD.

4.
